Ostwald Ripening and Antibacterial Activity of Silver Nanoparticles Capped by Anti-Inflammatory Ligands

Romina Alarcon et al.

Summary: In this study, the stability and antibacterial activity of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) coated with different stabilizers were investigated. The AgNPs showed differences in stability and size change depending on the coating agent used. The stabilizer may function as a growth controller of the nanoparticles, affecting their biological properties. The protective or stabilizing agents also played a role in the antibacterial capacity and stability of AgNPs over time.

Evaluation of Antifungal Activity of Ag Nanoparticles Synthetized by Green Chemistry against Fusarium solani and Rhizopus stolonifera

J. M. Moreno-Vargas et al.

Summary: This study synthesized silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using green chemistry with silver nitrate as the precursor and coriander leaf extract as the reducing agent and surfactant. The antifungal properties of AgNPs were evaluated against phytopathogens. Characterizations of the extract and AgNPs were performed using various techniques. The results showed the presence of flavones and flavonoids in the extract, which were involved in the synthesis of AgNPs. UV-Vis analysis indicated resonance peaks at around 428 nm for the AgNPs. The DLS measurements confirmed the high distribution of AgNP sizes, with concentrations below 100 nm. SEM and XRD measurements provided further information on the size and crystal structure of AgNPs. The phytopathogens' growth was completely inhibited at a concentration of 1 mg/mL AgNPs.

Recent Advances and Mechanistic Insights into Antibacterial Activity, Antibiofilm Activity, and Cytotoxicity of Silver Nanoparticles

Neetu Tripathi et al.

Summary: This review discusses the mechanisms and advances of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) in antibacterial and antibiofilm activity, including their interactions with bacterial cells, oxidative stress, and modulation of signal transduction pathways. Factors influencing the bactericidal activity of AgNPs such as shape, size, crystallinity, pH, and surface coating/charge are described. Additionally, antimicrobial photodynamic therapy and the comparison of AgNPs with Ag+ ion release are also discussed.

Endocytosed silver nanoparticles degrade in lysosomes to form secondary nanoparticle structures during expression of autophagy genes in osteogenic cells

G. C. Porter et al.

Summary: Research shows that AgNPs have relatively stronger resistance to osteoblast cells, being endocytosed into lysosomes and forming nano-chain assemblies in the cytosol. Osteoblasts exhibit oxidative stress response and autophagic cell death mechanisms, with sustained upregulation of the protective gene Heme Oxygenase 1.
