Valley splitting and magnetic anisotropy in two-dimensional VI3/MSe2 (M = W, Mo) heterostructures

Xiaotian Fang et al.

Summary: The electronic structure and magnetic anisotropy of VI3/MSe2 (M = W, Mo) heterostructures are studied, and it is found that they can be significantly tuned by biaxial strain. The VI3/WSe2 heterostructure exhibits a larger valley splitting with stable stacking, while the VI3/MoSe2 heterostructure shows in-plane magnetic anisotropy under different strains. These results suggest the potential applications of VI3/MSe2 heterostructures in spintronic devices.

High Curie temperature and large perpendicular magnetic anisotropy in two-dimensional half metallic OsI3 monolayer with quantum anomalous Hall effect

Xiaotian Fang et al.

Summary: In this study, the electronic structure and magnetic properties of a two-dimensional (2D) OsI3 monolayer were investigated using first-principles calculations. The results show that the monolayer exhibits various orbital orderings and magnetic states, and can be modulated by strain to control magnetic anisotropy and Curie temperature, indicating its potential application in spintronics.

Tunable magnetocrystalline anisotropy of two-dimensional Fe3GeTe2 with adsorbed 5d-transition metal

Miaojia Yuan et al.

Summary: By using first-principles calculations, the influence of W atom adsorption and biaxial strain on the magnetic properties of 2D material Fe3GeTe2 is investigated. It is found that the adsorption mode and strain play a critical role in determining the magnetocrystalline anisotropy (MCA) of Fe3GeTe2. Adsorption of W atoms leads to a change in spin reorientation and a colossal MCA. The strain-driven modulation of MCA in different adsorption configurations is also revealed.

Strain and electric field control of magnetic and electrical transport properties in a magnetoelastically coupled Fe3O4/BaTiO3 (001) heterostructure

Gyanendra Panchal et al.

Summary: We conducted a study on the control of electric field induced strain on the magnetic and electrical transport properties in an artificial multiferroic Fe3O4/BaTiO3 heterostructure. The results demonstrate the extrinsic control of magnetic anisotropy and metal-insulator transition via strain mediated converse magnetoelectric coupling. In addition, strain induced modulations in magnetic and electrical transport properties were observed across the intrinsic ferroelectric and structural phase transitions of the substrate. These findings provide a framework for achieving electrical control of magnetization in transition metal oxides.

Large magnetic anisotropy in an OsIr dimer anchored in defective graphene

Jan Navratil et al.

Summary: Single-atom magnets are studied for magnetic data storage, with research focusing on anchoring them on substrates. The use of density functional theory reveals how transition metal atoms bind to defect sites in graphene, potentially allowing precise engineering of their positions. Relativistic calculations show different levels of magnetic anisotropy energy, offering insights into increasing storage density.
