A Sulfonated Porphyrin Polymer/P25m Composite for Highly Selective Photocatalytic Conversion of CO2 into CH4

Tian-Yi Yang et al.

Summary: This study achieved high efficiency and selectivity in the photocatalytic conversion of CO2 into CH4 by fabricating a series of composite photocatalysts. The optimal sample, 2%-s-COP-P/P25m, demonstrated significantly higher production rate and selectivity compared to P25m. This excellent performance was attributed to improved photogenerated carrier separation efficiency and the interaction between the two moieties of the composites.

Summary: Four different metal atom dyes (MP) were designed and synthesized for dye-sensitized solar cells, with MP-ZnPA assembly showing improved photocurrent due to enhanced light-harvesting ability. However, the presence of dye aggregation hindered the improvement of photovoltages. AgP-ZnPA and ZnP-ZnPA demonstrated superior photovoltaic behavior, with the three-layer self-assembled solar cell showing significantly reduced efficiency, highlighting double-layer self-assembly as an effective strategy for enhancing performance in self-assembly supramolecular solar cells.

Visible light responsive metalloporphyrin-sensitized TiO2 nanotube arrays for artificial photosynthesis of methane

Tongxin Xiao et al.

Summary: The conversion of CO2 and water into valuable chemicals under sunlight irradiation is important for solving the problems of limited energy sources and global warming. In this study, a new artificial photosynthesis process was established by reducing CO2 to CH4 through photocatalysis. A photocatalyst composed of a porphyrin (metalloporphyrin) and TiO2 nanotube arrays was prepared and showed enhanced photocatalytic activity for CO2 reduction compared to pure TiO2 nanotubes. The amount of methane produced with the CoTCPP/TiO2NTs photocatalyst was about 5.5 times higher than that produced with TiO2NTs alone. The improved photocatalytic activity can be attributed to the enhanced light absorption ability and inhibition of electron-hole recombination of CoTCPP/TiO2NTs. Furthermore, a probable mechanism for the photoreduction of CO2 over CoTCPP/TiO2NTs was proposed based on the results of photocatalytic and photo(electro)chemical experiments.

Summary: Photocatalysis is a promising technology for converting CO2 into valuable chemicals, and this study successfully synthesized a novel hybrid photocatalyst using zinc(II)-tetra-(4-pyridyl) porphyrin and MnOx-decorated anatase titanium dioxide microspheres. The hybrid material exhibited excellent photocatalytic CO2 reduction performance, with significantly higher yields of methane and carbon monoxide compared to the pure titanium dioxide microspheres. The study also investigated the effects of ZnPy4/MnOx species on various factors influencing the photocatalytic performance. The results suggest that the hybrid material operates through a direct Z-scheme charge transfer mechanism, facilitated by the hydrogen bonding between the ZnPy4 and Mn/AMS components.

Turning built-in electric field of porphyrin on Ti3+ self-doped blue-TiO2 hollow nanospheres boosts peroxidase-like activity for high-performance biosensing

Qi Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, well-designed porphyrins with different electronegativity groups were synthesized to adjust the built-in electric field of the porphyrins. It was found that meso-tetrakis(meta-hydroxyphenyl) porphyrin (mTHPP) formed the strongest built-in electric field. By coupling mTHPP with Ti3+ self-doped blue TiO2 hollow nanospheres (b-TiO2), b-TiO2/29mTHPP with outstanding peroxidase-like activity was obtained. The combination of strong built-in electric field and well-matching energy levels promoted the efficient transmission of photo-generated electrons from mTHPP to b-TiO2. This system showed rapid oxidation of TMB by H2O2 and cholesterol determination when combined with cholesterol oxidase.
