Cytotoxic effect of bionanocatalysts evaluated by diffuse reflectance spectroscopy in an in vivo model of hepatocellular carcinoma

Francisco J. Padilla-Godinez et al.

Summary: The antitumor effect of novel bionanocatalysts was evaluated in a rat model with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) using Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy in liver and lung tissues. The obtained spectra showed a significant decrease in signal intensity in tumor tissues compared to healthy tissues. An increase in signal intensity was observed in diseased rats treated with bionanocatalysts, indicating their antitumor effect in terms of reducing tumor tissue.

Epidemiology of Glioblastoma Multiforme-Literature Review

Szymon Grochans et al.

Summary: Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is a highly aggressive malignancy with a median overall survival of approximately 15 months. This review analyzes the pathogenesis and epidemiological data of GBM, including age, gender, and tumor location. The data suggest that GBM is a higher-grade primary brain tumor and is significantly more common in men. Despite advancements in medicine, the risk of being diagnosed with glioma increases with age and median survival remains low. Additionally, the influence of stimulants, certain medications (such as NSAIDs), cell phone use, and exposure to heavy metals on GBM is difficult to determine clearly.

Epidemiology, risk factors, and prognostic factors of gliomas

Alessia Pellerino et al.

Summary: Diffuse gliomas are the most common primary malignant brain tumors in adults, with a higher incidence rate in males. Glioblastoma is the most frequent type, and young adults have a higher incidence of diffuse astrocytoma and oligodendroglioma. Ionizing radiation remains the only confirmed environmental risk factor for glioma.

Summary: Brain and other CNS tumors are highly fatal cancers in the United States, with different incidence rates and survival rates among different races and age groups. Survival disparities, especially in childhood tumors, highlight the importance of providing more resources to advance research and understand the reasons behind differences in brain tumor occurrence, especially among rarer subtypes and understudied populations.

Summary: Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common malignant primary brain tumor with highly infiltrative nature and treatment resistance, highlighting the importance of innovative treatment strategies. The standard treatment for GBM is surgical resection followed by chemoradiotherapy, but the robust DNA repair and self-renewing capabilities of GBM cells lead to resistance against current therapies.
