Experimental investigation for water adsorption characteristics on functionalized MIL-125 (Ti) MOFs: Enhanced water transfer and kinetics for heat transformation systems

Bo Han et al.

Summary: Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) are promising materials for achieving cooling, heating, and water desalination with zero or negligible carbon footprint. This article investigates the water adsorption and desorption characteristics of different functional group-assisted MOFs in the adsorption heat transformation (A-HT) process, and evaluates their performance in terms of cooling, heating, and desalination capacities.

Isotherms and kinetics of water sorption onto MOFs for adsorption cooling applications

Tahmid Hasan Rupam et al.

Summary: MOFs, a new type of porous coordination polymers, have attracted the interest of researchers worldwide. In this study, water adsorption isotherms onto three different MOFs were obtained and their performance in adsorption heat pumps was evaluated. Results showed that the studied MOFs exhibited excellent performance in water-based adsorption cooling systems.

Cooling performance of metal organic framework-water pairs in cascaded adsorption chillers

Shuaihao Wang et al.

Summary: Cascaded adsorption chillers with DUT-67-water working pair for both low-temperature and high-temperature stage achieve the highest coefficient of performance for cooling and circulating cooling capacity. The optimized operation conditions include a hot water inlet temperature of 373 K, hot and heat recovery water mass flow rate of 0.5 kg/s, chilled water mass flow rate of 1 kg/s, adsorbent mass ratio of 1 for the low-temperature and high-temperature stage, and a cycle time of 1600 s.

A critical overview of adsorption kinetics for cooling and refrigeration systems

Mahbubul Muttakin et al.

Summary: This article discusses the importance of the dynamic uptake of adsorbate onto the porous adsorbent for the performance of adsorption-based cooling systems. It presents kinetics models for simulating adsorption rates, analyzes the dynamic performance, and summarizes kinetics parameters values determined experimentally. Researchers suggest modifying different models to overcome their drawbacks and emphasize the need for statistical research on fitting errors of different models, with a future focus on adsorption of new environmentally friendly refrigerants and promising composite adsorbents with high thermal conductivity.
