Investigation of surface quality, microstructure, deformation mechanism, and fatigue performance of additively manufactured 304L stainless steel using grinding

Hongzhuang Zhang et al.

Summary: This study comprehensively investigates the surface integrity, residual stress, microstructure, and mechanical properties of 304L stainless steel made by laser powder bed fusion process. The results show that grinding significantly improves the surface quality characteristics and increases the fatigue life. Additionally, ground subsurface cracks and newly formed grains were observed, and their formation mechanisms were discussed.

Surface integrity and material removal mechanisms in high-speed grinding of Al/SiCp metal matrix composites

Sai Guo et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of different grinding speeds on the surface integrity of SiC particle reinforced Al metal matrix composites. The results show that high-speed grinding improves surface quality through dynamic recrystallization mechanisms. Higher grinding speeds result in less damage. The study also identifies different layers in the subsurface and explores the deformation mechanisms of the Al alloy matrix and SiC particles.

Effect of creep feed grinding on surface integrity and fatigue life of Ni3Al based superalloy IC10

Shuaiqi Zhang et al.

Summary: Ni3Al-based superalloy IC10 is investigated for its creep feed grinding properties, analyzing the effects of grinding parameters on forces, temperature, and fatigue life. The study concludes that grinding depth is the most influential factor, while surface roughness and hardening also play key roles in fatigue life. Recommended grinding parameters for better surface quality and fatigue life improvement are provided in the study.

Investigation of the surface integrity, flexural strength on the grinding of alumina for biomedical applications

Javad Khodaii et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the effects of different factors on Alumina during grinding using various diamond grinding wheels, including surface integrity, flexural strength, grinding energy, and cost. The experimental and analytical results showed good agreement, with a reduction in subsurface damages and improvements in flexural strength observed by controlling the grinding conditions. Optimal grinding conditions led to significant reductions in surface roughness and grinding cost.

Study on the Effect of Grinding Pressure on Material Removal Behavior Performed on a Self-Designed Passive Grinding Simulator

Peng-Zhan Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the influence of grinding pressure on rail material removal behaviors in passive grinding using a self-designed simulator. Results showed that an increase in grinding pressure led to higher removal rate, efficiency, surface roughness, residual stress, grinding force, and temperature. However, it also reduced the grinding ratio and thus decreased the grinding wheel's service life.

A high-precision prediction model of surface roughness in abrasive belt flexible grinding of aero-engine blade

Tingting Wang et al.

Summary: The study introduced a numerical simulation method to predict the machined surface topography of aeroengine blade using abrasive belt grinding technique, establishing a complex simulation model of contact deformation at grinding interface and obtaining a numerical prediction model of nonlinear contact deformation throughout the grinding process. The accuracy of the predicted surface roughness was validated through grinding experiments, with an average error of about 4%, and the difference in surface roughness between blade convex and concave surfaces was explained based on a mathematical model.
