Clean intermittent catheterization in long-term management of neurogenic bladder in spinal cord injury: Patient perspective and experiences

Ameya Deepak Joshi et al.

Summary: Bladder dysfunction caused by spinal cord injury has a significant impact on individuals' overall health and quality of life. Clean intermittent catheterization is recommended as the gold standard for bladder management due to its low complication rate. Factors influencing the transition from intermittent catheterization to other strategies are not well-documented, but this study found that challenges faced by patients include procedural difficulties and environmental barriers.

A Discrete Choice Experiment to Derive Health Utilities for Aromatic L-Amino Acid Decarboxylase (AADC) Deficiency in France

Adam B. Smith et al.

Summary: This study used a discrete choice experiment (DCE) to generate health utilities for AADC deficiency. The results showed that AADC deficiency has a significant impact on health states, including mobility, muscle weakness, oculogyric crises (OCG), feeding ability, cognitive impairment, and screaming, among other key attributes.

Differences in the incidence of urinary tract infections between neurogenic and non-neurogenic bladder dysfunction individuals performing intermittent catheterization

Blayne Welk et al.

Summary: This study aimed to measure the incidence and severity of urinary tract infections (UTI) in intermittent catheter (IC) users with neurogenic and non-neurogenic diagnoses. The study found that IC users had a higher incidence of UTIs compared to the general population, and IC users with neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction (NLUTD) had a higher hospitalization rate for UTIs.

A qualitative assessment of psychosocial aspects that play a role in bladder management after spinal cord injury

Blayne Welk et al.

Summary: This prospective qualitative study aimed to better understand the psychosocial aspects of bladder management after SCI. Through semi-structured interviews with 34 individuals, it was found that anxiety, loss of control, and embarrassment were common themes in their experiences. Understanding these issues can help guide counselling and education on bladder management in SCI patients.

Eliciting health state utilities for Aromatic L-amino Acid Decarboxylase (AADC) deficiency: a UK vignette study

Adam B. Smith et al.

Summary: This study focused on generating health state utilities for Aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase (AADC) deficiency through a vignette study, with participants drawn from a representative sample of the United Kingdom residential population. Findings revealed that around 21% of participants had incongruent responses, and health state utilities increased as health states improved.
