Leptin and adiponectin regulate the activity of nuclei involved in sleep-wake cycle in male rats

Oscar Daniel Ramirez-Plascencia et al.

Summary: Adiponectin and leptin play important roles in the regulation of sleep-wake cycles. Adiponectin increases wakefulness and reduces delta power during rest, activating wake-promoting neurons. Leptin promotes REM and NREM sleep, including an increase of delta power during NREM sleep, and reduces activity of wake-promoting neurons.

Quality of Life and Sleep in Patients with Pituitary Adenoma in Relation to Tumor Type and Compression of the Optic Chiasm

Karol Piotr Sagan et al.

Summary: The study found that the effect of transsphenoidal surgery on quality of life and sleep in patients with pituitary adenomas varies depending on tumor type. Patients with Cushing's disease showed significant improvements in general health, vitality, and mental health, while those with acromegaly experienced deterioration in physical functioning. After decompression of the optic chiasm, there was a significant improvement in subjective sleep quality, sleep duration, and habitual sleep efficiency.

Cushing Syndrome is Associated with Increased Stage N2 Sleep and Decreased SWS Partially Reversible After Treatment

Sevda Ismailogullari et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the sleep parameters of patients with Cushing syndrome (CS) and found that their sleep structure was disturbed, partially reversible after treatment. However, the risk of obstructive sleep apnea remained even a year after treatment, emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis and treatment.
