The improvement of parturition duration by high intake of dietary fibre in late gestation is associated with gut microbiota and metabolome in sows

Yang Liu et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of high dietary fiber intake on parturition duration, gut microbiota, and metabolome using sows as a model. The results showed that the high fiber diet significantly improved the parturition process, increased the abundance of certain bacterial taxa, and elevated levels of short-chain fatty acids and metabolites.

Tibetan Pig-Derived Probiotic Lactobacillus amylovorus SLZX20-1 Improved Intestinal Function via Producing Enzymes and Regulating Intestinal Microflora

Jiakun Shen et al.

Summary: This study isolated a strain of L. amylovorus SLZX20-1 from the feces of Tibetan weaned piglets. The strain exhibited a fast growth rate and produced various enzymes, and showed antibiotic effects on several bacterial strains. In vitro and in vivo experiments confirmed its strong adhesion ability to intestinal cells and its potential to improve host health. This suggests that L. amylovorus SLZX20-1 has the characteristics of a probiotic and could be a potential candidate for further research.

Summary: In pregnant and lactating sows, supplementation with alfalfa meal can improve reproductive performance, physical condition, and reduce intrauterine growth restriction. Additionally, it can decrease intestinal permeability and systemic inflammation, as well as impact gut microbiota composition.

Inclusion of wheat aleurone in gestation diets improves postprandial satiety, stress status and stillbirth rate of sows

Jinping Deng et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of including different amounts of wheat aleurone in gestation diets on the reproductive performance, satiety, stress status, and behavior of sows. The results showed that including 15% wheat aleurone led to improved postprandial satiety, reduced stress levels, and decreased stillbirth rates in sows. These findings suggest that wheat aleurone can be a beneficial partial substitute for conventional feed ingredients to enhance sow reproductive performance.
