Is It Time to Consider the Androgen Receptor as a Therapeutic Target in Breast Cancer?

Melika Kooshki Forooshani et al.

Summary: Breast cancer is a heterogeneous disease and the most common malignant tumor in women worldwide. Hormonal deprivation therapy is effective for estrogen receptor and progesterone receptor positive cases, but not for hormone-negative or therapy-refractory and metastatic patients. Therefore, the identification of novel biomarkers is crucial for predicting disease course and improving patient survival. The androgen receptor, which is widely expressed in human breast cancers, may serve as an interesting biomarker for this purpose.

Impact of recurrence pattern in patients undergoing a second surgery for recurrent glioblastoma

Francesco Pasqualetti et al.

Summary: The impact of different patterns of GBM recurrence on second surgery outcomes was investigated in a study at Pisa University Hospital. Patients with local recurrence had better overall survival (OS) compared to those with non-local recurrence, and the advantage of a second surgery was more pronounced in patients with local recurrence. The study suggests that recurrence patterns can influence the outcomes of recurrent GBM patients eligible for a second surgery.

The glioblastoma multiforme tumor site promotes the commitment of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes to the TH17 lineage in humans

Meike Mitsdoerffer et al.

Summary: Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) shows resistance to immune responses, specifically to checkpoint inhibition. The study reveals that the brain tumor environment in GBM may cause infiltrating T helper cells to develop into type 17 T helper cells. The potential of targeting these CD4(+) TILs in the tumor-promoting milieu needs further investigation.

Old and New Systemic Immune-Inflammation Indexes Are Associated with Overall Survival of Glioblastoma Patients Treated with Radio-Chemotherapy

Francesco Pasqualetti et al.

Summary: This study found that systemic immunity and inflammation indexes (SI) may serve as potential biomarkers for survival in patients with glioblastoma. The results of univariate and multivariate regression analyses showed that certain indexes had a statistically significant impact on overall survival.

Circulating Cell-Free DNA in Renal Cell Carcinoma: The New Era of Precision Medicine

Edoardo Francini et al.

Summary: Early diagnosis and predicting recurrence of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) are challenging, with no established predictive biomarkers yet. Circulating cell-free DNA (cfDNA) shows potential to be a non-invasive, cost-effective method for cancer detection, including RCC, offering contemporary mutational profiling of the tumor and potentially improving prognosis.

New insights in the expression of stromal caveolin 1 in breast cancer spread to axillary lymph nodes

Cristian Scatena et al.

Summary: Recent evidence indicates that loss of caveolin expression in the stromal compartment of human invasive breast carcinoma may be predictive of disease recurrence, metastasis, and poor prognosis. Additionally, a study on sCav-1 expression in breast cancer and axillary lymph nodes suggests that the loss of Cav-1 in lymph nodes may contribute to metastatic spread in breast cancer.

Immunohistochemistry for Thymidine Kinase-1 (TK1): A Potential Tool for the Prognostic Stratification of Breast Cancer Patients

Giuseppe Nicolo Fanelli et al.

Summary: TK1 is a cell proliferation marker with potential prognostic and predictive impacts in breast cancer. Studies have shown that TK1 expression levels are positively correlated with ER and PgR expression, and negatively correlated with HER2 status, impacting patients' distant recurrence-free survival.

Proliferating CD8+ T Cell Infiltrates Are Associated with Improved Survival in Glioblastoma

Ileana S. Mauldin et al.

Summary: This study revealed that proliferating CD8 T cell density and higher CD8/CD4 ratios are independent predictors of overall survival in patients with GBM. Contrarily, higher mean intensities of IFN gamma in the tumors were associated with shorter overall survival, suggesting the importance of promoting tumor-reactive CD8(+) T cells and interfering with the immunoregulatory effects of IFN gamma in the tumor microenvironment for enhanced survival.

Trends in Intracranial Glioma Incidence and Mortality in the United States, 1975-2018

Dongdong Lin et al.

Summary: The study found that glioma incidence in the US increased from 1975 to 2018 but started to decrease slightly since 1987. Glioma mortality also decreased gradually from 1995 to 2018, except for an increase in patients older than 80 years. Epidemiological changes in non-glioblastoma astrocytoma had the most impact on overall trends in glioma incidence and mortality.

Decipher the Glioblastoma Microenvironment: The First Milestone for New Groundbreaking Therapeutic Strategies

Giuseppe Nicolo Fanelli et al.

Summary: Glioblastoma is the most common primary malignant brain tumor in adults, with poor prognosis despite novel therapeutical approaches. It is a polymorphic tumor consisting of different cells and a complex microenvironment containing various cell types and immune cells, playing a crucial role in tumor progression and treatment response. An in-depth investigation of GBM's microenvironment may lead to novel therapeutic opportunities to improve patient outcomes, especially in the field of immunotherapy.

Surgical outcome and molecular pattern characterization of recurrent glioblastoma multiforme: A single-center retrospective series

Nicola Montemurro et al.

Summary: The extent of resection at repeated craniotomy significantly impacts the overall survival of patients with recurrent GBM. Changes in molecular pattern profiles between first and second surgery can affect patient survival, highlighting the importance of studying the evolution of genetic profiles after initial surgery in GBM management.

Identification of Gender-Specific Molecular Differences in Glioblastoma (GBM) and Low-Grade Glioma (LGG) by the Analysis of Large Transcriptomic and Epigenomic Datasets

Md Tipu Khan et al.

Summary: Gender-based differences in incidence and outcomes of glioma, especially glioblastoma, are well documented. Molecular analysis using TCGA and CGGA databases revealed gender-specific molecular indicators, with differential expression of genes affecting survival and epigenetic differences. Key signaling pathways such as Wnt signaling and immune processes showed gender-based variation, emphasizing the importance of considering gender in molecular studies of glioma.
