Marathon shoes vs. track spikes: a crossover pilot study on metabolic demand at different speeds in experienced runners

Luca Paolo Ardigo et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to compare the metabolic cost between marathon shoes and track spikes on a running track. The results showed that there was no significant difference in metabolic cost between the two shoe conditions at different speeds. However, there may be a potential benefit of using track spikes at higher speeds, although further research is needed to confirm this.

The Relevance of Muscle Fiber Type to Physical Characteristics and Performance in Team-Sport Athletes

Henry J. Hopwood et al.

Summary: The purpose of this systematic review was to determine the muscle fiber-type composition of team-sport athletes and examine its associations with physical characteristics and performance tasks. A total of 10 studies were included, showing considerable variability in muscle fiber-type composition. Some studies suggest that variation in muscle fiber-type composition is associated with high-intensity running performance and sprint times.

Development of multistage 10-m shuttle run test for VO2max estimation in healthy adults

Hong-Lae Cho et al.

Summary: The study conducted 10-m shuttle run and graded maximal exercise tests on 120 healthy adults, developing regression models to estimate VO(2)max. Results indicated a high correlation between the 10-m shuttle run test and graded maximal exercise test, with accurate estimation of VO(2)max.

Development of multistage 10-m shuttle run test for VO(2)max estimation in healthy adults

Hong-Lae Cho et al.

Summary: The study found that the developed 10-m multistage shuttle run test is an accurate and valid method for estimating VO2max, which can solve the spatial limitations of the traditional 20-m MST and can be applied to men and women in different age groups.

Level, Uphill, and Downhill Running Economy Values Are Correlated Except on Steep Slopes

Marcel Lemire et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the correlation between energy cost of running at different slopes and speeds, as well as the influence of lower limb strength on energy cost. The results showed that energy cost was correlated with muscle strength and different slopes, with the optimal downhill grade varying across speeds.
