Defining Training and Performance Caliber: A Participant Classification Framework

Alannah K. A. McKay et al.

Summary: This paper presents a 6-tiered Participant Classification Framework that can be used to classify individuals with different exercise backgrounds and athletic abilities. The framework can be applied prospectively and retrospectively in research, providing uniformity in classification practices.

Effects of Acute Fatigue on Cognitive Performance in Team Sport Players: Does It Change the Way They Perform? A Scoping Review

Filip Skala et al.

Summary: Fatigue can affect the cognitive functioning of athletes, especially in sports with high cognitive demands. Prolonged exercise leads to a decline in decision-making, attention, and perception abilities of players. Mental fatigue and consequent decision-making deterioration can be triggered by a certain amount of time spent on cognitive tasks or exposure to smartphone applications. However, the specific effects depend on the intensity and duration of the fatigue-inducing tasks.

Analysis of the Effect of Injuries on Match Performance Variables in Professional Soccer Players: A Retrospective, Experimental Longitudinal Design

Javier Raya-Gonzalez et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the changes in match performance parameters in professional soccer players after sustaining an injury, and found that injuries led to a reduction in playing time and different impacts on running speed and maximum speed depending on the severity of the injury.

Muscle Damage-Based Recovery Strategies Can Be Supported by Predictive Capacity of Specific Global Positioning System Accelerometry Parameters Immediately a Post-Soccer Match-Load

Cristiano D. da Silva et al.

Summary: The study found that only the average speed parameter can predict the changes in serum creatine kinase levels post soccer match, providing practical application for making decisions on post-game recovery. Other global positioning system accelerometry parameters and subjective variables did not show significant correlation.

The association between perceptual-cognitive processes and response time in decision making in young soccer players

Felippe da Silva Leite Cardoso et al.

Summary: The study analyzed how response time in decision making managed by Systems 1 and 2 is associated with the perceptual-cognitive processes of young soccer players. Participants were divided into faster and slower decision-makers based on their response time. Results showed that faster decision-makers employed more fixations of shorter duration, displayed less cognitive effort, and had more thought processes associated with planning, reinforcing differences in the use of perceptual-cognitive processes in decision-making and the efficiency of System 1 in faster decision-making.

Decision-making skills of high-performance youth soccer players Validating a video-based diagnostic instrument with a soccer-specific motor response

Dennis Murr et al.

Summary: This study aimed to develop a valid video-based diagnostic instrument that assesses decision-making with a sport-specific motor response. The results showed that the diagnostic instrument is suitable for discriminating between playing status and different age groups, but playing position did not significantly influence decision-making competence.
