Summary: The aim of this study was to determine the temperament and impulsiveness profile of short track athletes. The results showed that skaters obtain higher scores on temperamental and impulsivity scales compared to the general population. Two homogeneous profiles of short track athletes were identified, one characterized by high scores on reward dependence, persistence, self-directedness, cooperativeness, temperamental and sensation-seeking impulsiveness scales, and low scores on the temperamental and impulsiveness scales of harm avoidance, positive urgency, negative urgency, and lack of perseverance; and the other characterized by the reverse pattern.

Emotional Reactions and Adaptation to COVID-19 Lockdown (or Confinement) by Spanish Competitive Athletes: Some Lesson for the Future

Jose Carlos Jaenes Sanchez et al.

Summary: The global Coronavirus Covid 19 pandemic has had a devastating impact on the world economy, and the sports world has not been spared. Athletes lacking motivation during the pandemic were found to have higher levels of stress, behavioral problems, and emotional upheaval, while those who accepted the necessary confinement measures and supported social isolation rules fostered positive emotional states. Availability of sports equipment and continued training were protective factors against emotional stress and lack of motivation, with gender differences in coping activities noted. Coaching, support, and consistent training routines were identified as valuable tools in preventing or reducing the harmful effects of isolation on athletes' emotional well-being.
