GLP-1 receptor agonists for the treatment of obesity: Role as a promising approach

Jing-Yue Wang et al.

Summary: Obesity is a complex disease caused by genetic, environmental, and other factors, leading to excessive fat accumulation. Weight loss is essential in reducing obesity-related complications and chronic diseases. The use of anti-obesity drugs, particularly glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP-1R) agonists, shows promising effects in treating or preventing obesity. This review aims to provide evidence from previous research on the effects of GLP-1R agonists on obesity, which can guide the development of obesity treatments in the future.

Normal and disordered gastric emptying in diabetes: recent insights into (patho)physiology, management and impact on glycaemic control

Ryan J. Jalleh et al.

Summary: Gastric emptying plays a significant role in postprandial blood glucose levels and is frequently disordered in individuals with diabetes. Delayed gastric emptying may be linked to upper gastrointestinal symptoms and can cause a mismatch between insulin action and carbohydrate absorption, leading to suboptimal glycemic control.

Time and metabolic state-dependent effects of GLP-1R agonists on NPY/AgRP and POMC neuronal activity in vivo

Yanbin Dong et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that liraglutide and semaglutide can activate POMC neurons and indirectly inhibit NPY/AgRP neurons in vivo, providing a mechanism for treating diabetes and obesity. These effects may be influenced by the individual's nutritional status.
