Stewed Rhubarb Decoction Ameliorates Adenine-Induced Chronic Renal Failure in Mice by Regulating Gut Microbiota Dysbiosis

Rui Wang et al.

Summary: Stewed Rhubarb decoction can protect against chronic renal failure (CRF) by regulating gut microbiota and reducing levels of urea and creatinine. It improves renal fibrosis, tubular atrophy, and inflammation, while also promoting the repair of gut barrier. The reshaping of gut microbiota further balances the production of intestinal metabolites, leading to the amelioration of CRF.

Cardiomyocyte-specific knockout of ADAM17 ameliorates left ventricular remodeling and function in diabetic cardiomyopathy of mice

Fei Xue et al.

Summary: This study found that ADAM17 activity and ACE2 shedding were enhanced in diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM). Cardiomyocyte-specific knockout of ADAM17 mitigated cardiac fibrosis, cardiomyocyte apoptosis, and improved cardiac function in DCM mice. The mechanism may involve activated AMPK pathway, increased autophagosome formation, and improved autophagic flux.

miR-490: A potential biomarker and therapeutic target in cancer and other diseases

Omkar Suhas Vinchure et al.

Summary: miR-490, a well-studied miRNA, is associated with the pathogenesis of various diseases, particularly showing potential in cancer diagnosis and prognosis. Multiple epigenetic and posttranscriptional mechanisms tightly regulate the levels of miR-490, with its targets involving cancer-related genes that impact various cancer hallmarks.

Long noncoding RNA-SNHG20 promotes silica-induced pulmonary fibrosis by miR-490-3p/TGFBR1 axis

Demin Cheng et al.

Summary: Silicosis is a common occupational disease caused by long-term exposure to crystalline silica. Recent studies have shown the important role of miR-490-3p in silica-induced pulmonary fibrosis by regulating TGFBR1 gene. The results suggest that the SNHG20/miR-490-3p/TGFBR1 axis may serve as a new therapeutic target for pulmonary fibrosis.

Summary: This study demonstrated that emodin improves renal dysfunction and reduces pathological damage of the kidney by activating autophagy and inhibiting EMT in rats with RF. In vitro studies showed that emodin can reverse EMT and activate autophagy. Upregulation of BMP-7 was observed in the RF rats treated with emodin.

Chronic kidney disease

Kamyar Kalantar-Zadeh et al.

Summary: Chronic kidney disease is a progressive disease with no cure, and preserving kidney function through lifestyle adjustments and pharmacological interventions can improve outcomes. A plant-dominant, low-protein, and low-salt diet may help mitigate glomerular hyperfiltration and preserve renal function. Various pharmacotherapies can also be used to alter intrarenal haemodynamics and protect the kidney from further damage.
