Single-Cell Analysis Reveals the Immune Characteristics of Myeloid Cells and Memory T Cells in Recovered COVID-19 Patients With Different Severities

Xu Li et al.

Summary: Using single-cell RNA sequencing, we studied the immune cell characteristics of recovered COVID-19 patients. The results showed that severe/critical recovered patients still had peripheral immune disorders 1-2 months after symptom onset, while mild/moderate recovered patients showed partial recovery of immune cells.

The immunology of sepsis

Tom van der Poll et al.

Summary: Sepsis is a life-threatening condition caused by infection-induced organ dysfunction, characterized by unbalanced hyperinflammation and immune suppression. Current research aims to stratify sepsis patients into more similar subgroups to better identify those who are likely to benefit from specific immune interventions.

COVID-19 immune features revealed by a large-scale single-cell transcriptome atlas

Xianwen Ren et al.

Summary: The study revealed the presence of immune response dysfunction in COVID-19 patients, with different peripheral immune subtype changes associated with clinical features such as age, sex, severity, and disease stages. Additionally, dramatic transcriptomic changes were observed within virus-infected cells, and upregulation of S100A8/A9 in peripheral blood may contribute to the cytokine storms frequently observed in severe patients.

Single-cell RNA sequencing reveals the sustained immune cell dysfunction in the pathogenesis of sepsis secondary to bacterial pneumonia

Teng Wang et al.

Summary: This study used single cell RNA sequencing to analyze the quantity and function of immune cells in patients with sepsis secondary to bacterial pneumonia. The findings showed upregulation of interferon gamma response, activation and exhaustion of T/NK cell subtypes, and increased proportion of plasma cells during the disease course. These alterations may be associated with the occurrence and development of the disease.

Integrated analysis of multimodal single-cell data

Yuhan Hao et al.

Summary: The study introduces a weighted-nearest neighbor analysis framework to learn the relative utility of each data type in each cell, enabling integrative analysis of multiple modalities. Applied to a CITE-seq dataset, the method constructs a multimodal reference atlas of the circulating immune system and successfully identifies and validates previously unreported lymphoid subpopulations.

Inflammation and Cell Death of the Innate and Adaptive Immune System during Sepsis

Christina Nedeva

Summary: Sepsis is a life-threatening medical condition caused by abnormal immune responses. It consists of two phases: immune activation and immunosuppression leading to immune cell death. Lack of specific treatments is mainly due to limited knowledge of the immuno-physiology associated with the disease.
