TWEAK-Fn14-RelB Signaling Cascade Promotes Stem Cell-like Features that Contribute to Post-Chemotherapy Ovarian Cancer Relapse

Ryne Holmberg et al.

Summary: Disease recurrence in high-grade serous ovarian cancer may be attributed to resistant cancer stem-like cells (CSC) that can reestablish tumors. The study reveals that the TNF-like weak inducer of apoptosis (TWEAK) and its receptor, Fn14, play a role in activating the alternative NF-xB signaling pathway in ovarian tumors after chemotherapy. Furthermore, TWEAK enhances the characteristics of CSCs and induces the expression of the CSC marker CD117 in ovarian cancer cells. Blocking the TWEAK-Fn14-RelB signaling cascade prolongs survival in a mouse model of ovarian cancer treated with carboplatin chemotherapy.

The prognostic marker elastin correlates with epithelial-mesenchymal transition and vimentin-positive fibroblasts in gastric cancer

Tianyi Fang et al.

Summary: The study found that Elastin (ELN) plays an important role in gastric cancer (GC) and is associated with poor prognosis. ELN may be involved in the progression of GC by regulating the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). The expression of ELN is positively correlated with the fibroblast marker VIM and is an independent prognostic indicator for GC patients.

FGF1 and insulin control lipolysis by convergent pathways

Gencer Sancar et al.

Summary: In this study, the researchers found that FGF1 decreases hepatic glucose production by suppressing adipose lipolysis. They also discovered that FGF1 activates PDE4D to inhibit the cAMP-protein kinase A axis, distinguishing its mechanism from the inhibitory actions of insulin via PDE3B. These findings reveal the role of the FGF1/PDE4 pathway in regulating adipose-hepatic glucose production axis and identifying FGF1 as an unrecognized regulator of fatty acid homeostasis.

Optimal endometrial thickness in fresh and frozen-thaw in vitro fertilization cycles: an analysis of live birth rates from 96,000 autologous embryo transfers

Neal Mahutte et al.

Summary: The thickness of the endometrium has a significant impact on live birth rates in fresh and frozen-thaw embryo transfer cycles. In fresh cycles, increasing endometrial thickness can improve live birth rates until it reaches 10-12 mm, while in frozen cycles, live birth rates plateau after the endometrium measures 7-10 mm. Endometrial thickness below 6 mm is clearly associated with a dramatic reduction in live birth rates.
