Upregulation of NOD1 and NOD2 contribute to cancer progression through the positive regulation of tumorigenicity and metastasis in human squamous cervical cancer

Summary: This study found that NOD1 was highly expressed in metastatic cervical squamous cell carcinoma and was associated with poor overall survival. Overexpression of NOD1 or NOD2 promoted proliferation, invasion, and migration of cancer cells. Mechanistically, NOD1 and NOD2 exerted their oncogenic effects by activating NF-kappa b and ERK signaling pathways and enhancing IL-8 secretion. Targeting the IL-8 receptor may have therapeutic potential for patients with NOD1(high) tumors.
