Mapping of whole-cerebrum resting-state networks using ultra-high resolution acquisition protocols

Seong Dae Yun et al.

Summary: This study presents a novel fMRI technique combining EPIK and TR-external EPI to enhance spatial resolution of resting-state fMRI and enable whole-brain mapping. The feasibility of using half-millimetre in-plane TR-external EPIK for resting-state fMRI was validated, and reproducible mapping of resting-state networks was demonstrated.

Perfusion weighted imaging using combined gradient/spin echo EPIK: Brain tumour applications in hybrid MR-PET

N. Jon Shah et al.

Summary: Advanced GESE-EPIK sequence is utilized in brain tumor imaging, showing reduced susceptibility artifacts, shorter TE times, and increased brain coverage compared to traditional EPI methods. This new approach provides comparable tSNR for some echoes and significantly higher tSNR for others, demonstrating improved imaging performance in multi-contrast applications.

Layer-dependent functional connectivity methods

Laurentius Huber (Renzo) et al.

Summary: Recent advances in fMRI technology have enabled researchers to study information processing in the cortical layers more effectively, particularly in terms of connectivity. However, layer-fMRI still faces challenges that require more flexible and precise methods to address. This article describes newly developed acquisition methodologies that can provide more comprehensive data for investigating brain network connections.

Effects of phase regression on high-resolution functional MRI of the primary visual cortex

Olivia W. Stanley et al.

Summary: High-resolution functional MRI studies have proven to be a powerful tool in probing the functional organization of the human cortex, with ongoing debate within the community regarding the use of gradient echo or spin echo based acquisition methods. Phase regression technique shows potential as a useful method in low signal-to-noise ratio studies such as high-resolution fMRI.

Ultra-high field (7T) functional magnetic resonance imaging in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis: a pilot study

Summary: The study identified disruptions in functional connectivity in ALS patients at cerebellar lobule VI, a transition zone between anterior motor networks and posterior non-motor networks in the cerebellum, which is associated with complex motor and cognitive processing tasks. This observation adds to the growing body of research implicating the cerebellum in ALS, and suggests potential for leveraging high-resolution imaging to visualize differences in functional connectivity disturbances in various genotypes and phenotypes along the ALS-frontotemporal dementia spectrum.
