High Surface Area ZnO-Nanorods Catalyze the Clean Thermal Methane Oxidation to CO2

Tanika Kessaratikoon et al.

Summary: ZnO nanostructures with different morphologies, nanorods, and nanopyramids were synthesized using non-aqueous and aqueous sol-gel techniques. The ZnO nanorods obtained through a rapid and scalable procedure exhibited high surface area. They showed excellent catalytic performance in complete methane oxidation at high temperatures, maintaining over 90% conversion for 12 hours at 700 degrees C. The high surface-to-volume ratio and abundant oxygen vacancies contributed to their enhanced catalytic activity.

Boosting the efficiencies of ethanol total combustion by Cs incorporation into rod-shaped α-MnO2 catalysts

Shuo Li et al.

Summary: In this study, cesium was introduced into two different crystal facet rod-shaped alpha-MnO2 catalysts using ion exchange technique. The Cs-doped alpha-MnO2 catalysts showed significantly improved catalytic performance in the total combustion of ethanol with low concentration compared to undoped catalysts. The introduction of cesium improved the low temperature reducibility and contributed to the generation of more surface Mn4+ and oxygen vacancies, leading to enhanced ethanol oxidation activity.

Boosting the efficiencies of ethanol total combustion by Cs incorporation into rod-shaped alpha-MnO2 catalysts

Shuo Li et al.

Summary: In this study, cesium was introduced into two rod-shaped alpha-MnO2 with different crystal facets by ion exchange technique, resulting in improved catalytic performance and lower activation energy. Characterization using various techniques revealed that Cs doping enhanced the reducibility of the catalysts and promoted the generation of more reactive oxygen species, boosting ethanol oxidation activity. Incorporating Cs+ into alpha-MnO2 proved to be an effective strategy for designing low-cost, high-performance, and environmentally friendly metal oxide combustion catalysts.

Preparation of the Mn/Co mixed oxide catalysts for low-temperature CO oxidation reaction

Mojtaba Ghiassee et al.

Summary: Mn/Co mixed powders prepared by coprecipitation method showed excellent catalytic performance in low-temperature CO oxidation, with the best performance observed at a Mn/Co molar ratio of 1:1. Incorporation of 1wt.% Pd further enhanced the catalytic activity, with the catalyst exhibiting 100% CO conversion at 80 degrees C.

Tailoring the morphology and crystal facet of Mn3O4 for highly efficient catalytic combustion of ethanol

Yutao Dai et al.

Summary: Three nanoscale Mn3O4 catalysts with different morphologies were prepared and evaluated for ethanol combustion. The hexagonal nanoplates catalyst showed enhanced performance due to the (112) crystal facet with high surface energy, facilitating adsorption/activation of ethanol and oxygen. This study suggests that crystal facet engineering can be used to develop high performance, low cost, environmentally friendly manganese oxides catalysts.

Decoupling the size and support/metal loadings effect of Ni/SiO2 catalysts for CO2 methanation

Kang Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of nickel particle size on CO2 methanation and demonstrates that small nickel nanoparticles supported on SiO2 can significantly enhance catalytic performance. In situ DRIFTS results suggest that small Ni particles favor the formation of key intermediates and thus promote the CO2 methanation reaction. These findings provide valuable insights for designing effective CO2 methanation catalysts by tuning the size of Ni nanoparticles.

Synthesis, characterization and catalytic activity of cryptomelane/montmorillonite composites

L. Vaculikova et al.

Summary: Manganese oxides are effective catalysts for the oxidation of VOCs, and MnO2/montmorillonite composites were prepared and characterized. The composites showed higher activity in toluene oxidation and the catalytic performance in ethanol combustion was influenced by the distribution of potassium between montmorillonites and cryptomelane.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the addition of citric acid affects the size of nickel nanoparticles and the interaction of metal and support, hence influencing the catalytic performance. The interfacial structure of Y-O-Ni formed at high citric acid addition is crucial for methane formation on Ni/Y2O3 catalysts.

Transesterification of dimethyl carbonate with glycerol by perovskite-based mixed metal oxide nanoparticles for the atom-efficient production of glycerol carbonate

Jitpisut Poolwong et al.

Summary: Catalytic transesterification of glycerol with dimethyl carbonate using perovskites and perovskite-based mixed metal oxides (PBMMOs) was explored in this study. PBMMOs prepared via non-hydrolytic sol gel method exhibited higher surface areas and stronger basic sites compared to those produced by calcination. The most basic PBMMOs (SrTiO3-200, YNbO4-200, BaCeO3-200) showed the highest catalytic activity, with SrTiO3-200 achieving quantitative conversion of glycerol to glycerol carbonate under optimized conditions.
