One Step Dimethyl Ether (DME) Synthesis from CO2 Hydrogenation over Hybrid Catalysts Containing Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 and Nano-Sized Hollow ZSM-5 Zeolites

Karima Krim et al.

Summary: The study focuses on developing bifunctional catalytic materials for the direct synthesis of dimethyl ether (DME) from CO2 and H-2. Industrial Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 is used as the catalyst for the first step in methanol synthesis from CO2 and H-2, and it is combined with hollow nano-ZSM-5 zeolites with mesoporous shell as the acid catalyst for the second step of methanol dehydration to DME. The bifunctional materials were tested under specific conditions and produced mainly DME (77.5%) and methanol (22.5%), without the presence of carbon monoxide.

Structure-performance correlations in the hybrid oxide-supported copper-zinc SAPO-34 catalysts for direct synthesis of dimethyl ether from CO2

Sara Navarro-Jaen et al.

Summary: This study found that copper dispersion was higher and CO2 conversion rate was greater on alumina and zirconia supported catalysts, followed by ceria supported catalysts. The CO2 hydrogenation process appears to be mainly influenced by the higher copper dispersion and to a lesser extent by the concentration of Bronsted acid sites in the catalysts studied. Due to lower reverse water gas-shift activity, the alumina supported catalyst showed a higher dimethyl ether yield compared to the zirconia and ceria supported catalysts.

Natural aluminosilicate nanotubes loaded with RuCo as nanoreactors for Fischer-Tropsch synthesis

Kristina Mazurova et al.

Summary: A nanoarchitectural approach was used to load mesoporous halloysite nanotubes with RuCo nanoparticles for Fischer-Tropsch catalysis. The resulting catalyst exhibited high activity, low selectivity to methane and CO2, high selectivity to C5+ hydrocarbons, and a chain growth index of 0.853. The choice of reducing agent during synthesis played a crucial role in the reducibility and selectivity of the RuCo catalysts.

A Kinetic Model Considering Catalyst Deactivation for Methanol-to-Dimethyl Ether on a Biomass-Derived Zr/P-Carbon Catalyst

Javier Torres-Linan et al.

Summary: A Zr-loaded P-containing biomass-derived activated carbon (ACPZr) has been found to exhibit high selectivity towards dimethyl ether (DME) in methanol dehydration reactions at 500 degrees C, with a yield of more than 20% for over 24 hours. A kinetic model was developed to account for the inhibition of water and catalyst deactivation by coke. Results showed that water had a reversible competitive adsorption effect, while coke formation could be attributed to a formaldehyde intermediate.

A Review on Deactivation and Regeneration of Catalysts for Dimethyl Ether Synthesis

Joanna Sobczak et al.

Summary: The deactivation and regeneration of catalysts are crucial for many industrial processes, especially in the synthesis of dimethyl ether (DME). The main reasons for DME catalyst deterioration include sintering, hydrothermal leaching, migration of particles, formation of hydroxycarbonates, carbon deposits, and surface contamination. This review provides a summary of recent research on DME catalyst deactivation and regeneration, including commonly used catalysts, modifications, basic parameters, deactivation approaches, and regeneration methods.
