Large-Scale Preparation of Ultrathin Bimetallic Nickel Iron Sulfides Branch Nanoflake Arrays for Enhanced Hydrogen Evolution Reaction

Shengjue Deng et al.

Summary: A TiO2@FeNi2S4 nanoflake array with excellent hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) performance has been successfully synthesized at a large scale by combining atomic-layer-deposited (ALD) TiO2 skeleton with one-step sulfurization method. Compared to other reported catalysts, the as-prepared TiO2@FNS arrays exhibit higher specific surface area and improved structural stability, leading to better catalytic performance. The combination of experimental results and theoretical calculations has provided a new way for exploring high-efficient catalysts for HER.

A Decade of Electrocatalysis with Metal Aerogels: A Perspective

Weishan Li et al.

Summary: In recent years, there have been significant efforts to address energy and environmental crises. Among these efforts, electrocatalysis has gained recognition and attention for its high efficiency and easy processability. Metal aerogels (MAs), as emerging electrocatalysts, have shown unique advantages in electrocatalysis due to their three-dimensional conductive pathways, catalytically/optically active sites, and robust network structures. However, due to the short history of MAs, there is still insufficient research on them, providing ample room for material design and performance optimization. This perspective aims to summarize the state-of-the-art progress in electrocatalysis with MAs and guide the efficient design of MAs-based electrocatalysts for energy- and environment-related applications.

PtM/CNT (M = Mo, Ni, CoCr) Electrocatalysts with Reduced Platinum Content for Anodic Hydrogen Oxidation and Cathodic Oxygen Reduction in Alkaline Electrolytes

Inna Vernigor et al.

Summary: In this paper, bimetallic catalysts containing platinum and transition metals (PtM, M = Mo, Ni, CoCr) were synthesized on carbon nanotubes (CNTs) functionalized in an alkaline medium. The catalysts showed activity in both the hydrogen oxidation reaction (HOR) and the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in alkaline electrolytes. PtM/CNT also exhibited high selectivity in reducing oxygen directly to water during ORR. These results suggest that PtM/CNT catalysts can be used in alkaline fuel cells as both an anode and a cathode.

Novel Bifunctional Nitrogen Doped MoS2/COF-C4N Vertical Heterostructures for Electrocatalytic HER and OER

Nan Zhang et al.

Summary: A nitrogen-doped MoS2/COF-C4N vertical heterojunction catalyst was fabricated and showed excellent activity in both HER and OER. The catalyst exhibited lower overpotential and superior charge transfer characteristic, providing a new avenue for efficient hydrogen evolution and oxygen evolution reactions.

Hydrogen Evolution Reaction Activities of Room-Temperature Self-Grown Glycerol-Assisted Nickel Chloride Nanostructures

Nanasaheb M. Shinde et al.

Summary: In this work, 3-D dandelion flower-like nickel chloride (NiCl2) nanostructures were synthesized for the first time through glycerol-mediated self-growth on nickel-foam (NiF) using a room-temperature wet chemical method. These NiCl2 flowers exhibited excellent electrocatalytic performance for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), outperforming NiF and NiCl2 electrodes prepared without glycerol. The glycerol-based NiCl2 electrode also showed superior reaction kinetics and stability compared to the other two electrodes.
