Metal-Support Interactions in Metal/Oxide Catalysts and Oxide-Metal Interactions in Oxide/Metal Inverse Catalysts

Yangyang Li et al.

Summary: This article comprehensively reviews the progress on metal-support interactions (MSI) in metal/oxide catalysts and oxide-metal interactions (OMI) in oxide/metal inverse catalysts. It emphasizes the structure sensitivity of MSI and OMI, and introduces the concepts of electronic oxide-metal interactions (EOMI) and electronic oxide-metal strong interactions (EOMSI) in oxide/metal inverse catalysts. The article provides an overview of the background and nature of interfacial interactions between metals and oxides, reviews the MSI in metal/oxide catalysts with a focus on size and facet effects, and discusses the OMI in oxide/metal inverse catalysts with an emphasis on EOMI and EOMSI.

Comparison of the catalytic performance of Au/TiO2 prepared by in situ photodeposition and deposition precipitation methods for CO oxidation at room temperature under visible light irradiation

Qiuzhong Li et al.

Summary: The Au/TiO2-PD sample prepared by in situ photodeposition method exhibited better catalytic activity for CO oxidation due to smaller Au nanoparticles and enhanced electron transfer behavior between Au NPs and TiO2. The interaction between CO and lattice O of TiO2, as well as the activation of O-2, contributed to the ultra-high activity of CO oxidation. Additionally, the Au/TiO2-PD sample showed a more obvious photopromoted effect under visible light irradiation compared to Au/TiO2-DP, indicating the importance of Au NPs size and electron transfer behavior in CO oxidation.

Enhancing electronic metal support interaction (EMSI) over Pt/TiO2 for efficient catalytic wet air oxidation of phenol in wastewater

Jile Fu et al.

Summary: In this study, a highly active Pt/TiO2 catalyst for the catalytic wet air oxidation (CWAO) of phenol was successfully prepared by supporting pre-synthesized Pt on TiO2. The research indicated that the enhancement of electron-metal support interaction (EMSI) can significantly improve the catalyst activity.

A simulated-TPD study of H2 desorption on metal surfaces

Shuangshuang Lv et al.

Summary: In this study, the desorption process of H2 molecules on different metal nanoparticles was simulated using density functional theory calculations. The simulated-TPD curves of H2 desorption on different surfaces of Ni, Pd, Pt, and Cu were consistent with experimental measurements. These simulated results contribute to a comprehensive understanding of the interactions between surface hydrogen species and metal catalysts in heterogeneous catalysis.

Evolution of multiple spillover hydrogen species on anatase titanium dioxide

Kairui Liu et al.

Summary: Hydrogen spillover is a widespread phenomenon on reducible metal oxide surfaces, and direct physical characterization of the spillover hydrogen species on an oxide catalyst support has been challenging. In this study, the physicochemical character of three distinct spillover hydrogen species on anatase titanium dioxide (TiO2-A) was detected and determined using deuterium magic-angle-spinning (MAS) nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, aided by density functional theory.

Metal-Support Interactions in Metal/Oxide Catalysts and Oxide-Metal Interactions in Oxide/Metal Inverse Catalysts

Yangyang Li et al.

Summary: In this review, the metal-support interactions (MSI) in metal/oxide catalysts and the oxide-metal interactions (OMI) in oxide/metal inverse catalysts are comprehensively discussed. Electronic oxide-metal interactions (EOMI) and electronic oxide-metal strong interactions (EOMSI) in oxide/metal inverse catalysts are introduced as analogies to the concept of EMSI and SMSI in metal/oxide catalysts, emphasizing the structure sensitivity of MSI and OMI. Additionally, the effects of size and facet on the structure and electronic properties of metal/oxide catalysts are highlighted alongside a summary and outlook on the local nature and structure sensitivity of MSI and OMI.

In Situ Electrochemical XPS Monitoring of the Formation of Anionic Gold Species by Cathodic Corrosion of a Gold Electrode in an Ionic Liquid

Zhen Liu et al.

Summary: The application of ionic liquids in ultra-high vacuum allows for the investigation of electrochemical reactions and interfacial properties through in situ electrochemical XPS. The study showed that cathodic corrosion of a gold electrode in an ionic liquid electrolyte leads to the formation of anionic gold species (Au-), providing new opportunities for research on deposition processes, corrosion behavior, and catalytic processes.

Crystal-plane effects of anatase TiO2 on the selective hydrogenation of crotonaldehyde over Ir/TiO2 catalysts

Aiping Jia et al.

Summary: Supported Ir/TiO2 catalysts with anatase TiO2 nanocrystals exposing {101}, {100} and {001} planes were tested for selective hydrogenation of crotonaldehyde. The Ir/TiO2-{101} catalyst showed improved performance compared to the Ir/TiO2-{001} due to a higher concentration of oxygen vacancies, which served as adsorption sites for C=O bond. Deactivation of the catalyst was mainly caused by strong adsorption of crotonaldehyde and/or products, as well as CO poisoning via decarbonylation.
