Photoinhibitive Properties of α-MoO3 on Its Composites with TiO2, ZnO, BiOI, AgBr, and Cu2O

Endre-Zsolt Kedves et al.

Summary: This study compared the photocatalytic activities of active photocatalysts, including AgBr, ZnO, BiOI, and Cu2O, in the presence of a-MoO3. The results showed that a-MoO3 strongly inhibited the photocatalytic activity of TiO2, BiOI, Cu2O, and ZnO, but had no effect on AgBr. Therefore, a-MoO3 could be an effective inhibitor for evaluating newly explored photocatalysts.

Crystal-Plane-Dependent Guaiacol Hydrodeoxygenation Performance of Au on Anatase TiO2

Bin Zhao et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of different crystalline surfaces of TiO2 on the activity of Au-supported catalysts during the hydrodeoxygenation process. It is found that the easy reduction of the TiO2-101 surface and the formation of Aud- promote the demethylation of guaiacol, leading to high activity of Au/TiO2-101 catalyst. On the other hand, the lower activity of Au/TiO2-001 catalyst is attributed to the difficulty in reducing the TiO2-001 surface and the absence of Aud-.

alpha-MoO3 with inhibitive properties in Fenton reactions and insights on its general impact on OH radical based advanced oxidation processes

Endre-Zsolt Kedves et al.

Summary: This study showed that MoO3 can effectively inhibit the rate of Fenton reactions, thus reducing the decomposition of organic compounds, which might be due to the scavenging effect of MoO3 on OH radicals. The results also demonstrated that the inhibition efficiency of MoO3 is strongly correlated with the acidification rate of the solution.

Facet-dependent activity of shape-controlled TiO2 supported Au nanoparticles for the water-gas shift reaction

Yuanting Tang et al.

Summary: The bifunctional role of the noble metal/oxide interface in the activation of reactants is crucial in the heterogeneous catalysis of the water-gas shift reaction. In this study, different shape-controlled TiO2 supports were synthesized to investigate the effect of interface structure on the catalytic performance of supported Au nanoparticles. The results showed that Au/TiO2 with TiO2 octahedra exhibited excellent low temperature catalytic activity, while Au/TiO2 with TiO2 nanosheets showed higher activity at high temperatures. Surface oxygen species analysis and in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy revealed that the decomposition of carbonates and activation of water at the Au/TiO2 interface play key roles in the catalytic activities.

How to Use Localized Surface Plasmon for Monitoring the Adsorption of Thiol Molecules on Gold Nanoparticles?

Angeline S. Dileseigres et al.

Summary: The functionalization of gold nanoparticles with thiol molecules in solution is crucial for their application development. In this study, the changes in localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) peak due to the reaction between thiol molecules and gold nanoparticles were investigated using UV-visible spectroscopy. The saturation of thiol molecules on the nanoparticle surface was confirmed, and the wavelength shift was accurately predicted using an analytical model. The kinetics of the functionalization reaction were found to be rapid, completing in less than an hour.

Biborka Boga et al.

Summary: In this study, vectorial electron transfer between reaction center protein (RC) and WO3(center dot 0.33H2O) was achieved through physical adsorption, with the interaction efficiency being correlated to surface charge, structural/morphological properties, and anchoring capacity of the inorganic carrier. Additionally, the role of WO3(center dot 0.33H2O) as an electron trap and charge separator was demonstrated not only in RCs/WO3(center dot 0.33H2O) biohybrid systems but also in TiO2/WO3(center dot 0.33H2O) composites.
