Novel Molybdenite-Based Nanopowder Catalysts for Hydrodesulfurization

T. A. Fedushchak et al.

Summary: A study on novel bulk single-component sulfide catalysts synthesized by solid-phase dispersion of MoS2 molybdenite revealed that chemical degradation in the air leads to the formation of surface sulfate anions that shield catalytically active sites. The hydrodesulfurization ability of MoS2 powders showed indirect correlations with the concentration of sulfate anions on their surface, pH in powder suspensions, and dielectric permittivity of organic dopants, providing reference indicators for high catalytic activity. The most active sample was able to maintain its catalytic properties over multiple cycles, and the study also discussed dibenzothiophene conversion routes, product composition, active sites structures, and desulfurization degree of diesel fuel components.
