The Complex Interplay Between Trait Fatigue and Cognition in Multiple Sclerosis

C. Guillemin et al.

Summary: Cognitive impairments are frequent in patients with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), but the influence of MS-related symptoms on cognitive status is not clear. Fatigue is the only factor that affects cognitive abilities in MS patients, and there is an association between depression and cognition.

Quantitative magnetic resonance imaging towards clinical application in multiple sclerosis

Cristina Granziera et al.

Summary: Quantitative MRI provides biophysical measures of the microstructural integrity of the CNS, allowing comparisons across different regions, patients, and centres. In patients with multiple sclerosis, quantitative MRI techniques offer insight into disease mechanisms beyond what traditional MRI can provide, including assessment of diffuse damage, heterogeneity of lesions, and specific damage to CNS tissues. Emerging applications of quantitative MRI in both research and clinical settings aim to improve patient stratification, assess disease progression, and evaluate treatment response.

7T MRI Differentiates Remyelinated from Demyelinated Multiple Sclerosis Lesions

Hadar Kolb et al.

Summary: This study developed a simple classification scheme based on T1 relaxation time maps for noninvasive assessment of myelin status in chronic white matter lesions of MS. The results showed that long-T1 and mixed-T1 lesions were mainly distributed in juxtacortical and periventricular white matter regions, while short-T1 lesions were more common in deep white matter areas.

Voxel-Based quantitative MRI reveals spatial patterns of grey matter alteration in multiple sclerosis

Summary: This study utilized a quantitative multiparametric voxel-based approach to reveal three different configurations of GM microstructural/volumetric alterations in MS patients, including GM atrophy with reduction in MT, R1, and/or R2* in primary cortices, microstructural modifications without significant GM loss in hippocampus and paralimbic cortices, and atrophy without significant change in microstructure in deep GM nuclei.
