Variant Plateau's law in atomically thin transition metal dichalcogenide dome networks

Boqing Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, a variant of Plateau's law was observed in networks of atomically thin domes made of solid two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs). Significant surface tension differences resulting from layer-dependent van der Waals (vdWs) interaction energies manifest in a fundamentally variant nature of the law.

Optical Harmonic Generation in 2D Materials

Ahmed Raza Khan et al.

Summary: 2D materials are ideal candidates for fundamental investigations and new technologies due to their unique optoelectronic properties. Their giant nonlinear susceptibility and perfect phase matching lead to extraordinary nonlinear light matter interactions, enabling potential applications in nonlinear optics such as second harmonic generation. The combination of nonlinear optics and 2D materials is a highly important multidisciplinary field with promising prospects.

Mechanical Properties of Atomically Thin Tungsten Dichalcogenides: WS2, WSe2, and WTe2

Alexey Falin et al.

Summary: The study investigates the mechanical properties of 2D tungsten disulfide, tungsten diselenide, and tungsten ditelluride, revealing that high-quality 1L WS2 has the highest Young's modulus and strength, with WS2 showing the most significant decrease in elasticity and strength with increased thickness among the three materials. The findings provide insights into the behavior of these materials under different conditions and aging effects, which can be beneficial for the design and application of 2D tungsten dichalcogenides in various fields.

Table-top extreme ultraviolet second harmonic generation

Tobias Helk et al.

Summary: The lack of high flux and coherence in available table-top XUV sources has limited the use of nonlinear XUV and x-ray spectroscopies to free-electron lasers (FELs). This study demonstrates second harmonic generation (SHG) on a table-top XUV source, opening up new opportunities for studying element-specific dynamics.

Experimental Adhesion Energy in van der Waals Crystals and Heterostructures from Atomically Thin Bubbles

Elena Blundo et al.

Summary: Studying the morphology and behavior of bubbles on van der Waals crystals reveals the interplay between elastic parameters and interlayer forces on the crystal surface. The unexpected behaviors of the bubbles contradict common assumptions and require a new analytical model to describe them accurately. The research findings highlight material-dependent trends in adhesion energy between different van der Waals crystals.
