Gray Matter Volume in Elderly adults With ADHD: Associations of Symptoms and Comorbidities With Brain Structures

Margarete Klein et al.

Summary: The study investigated total and selected region-of-interest-based gray matter volume (GMV) in older adults with ADHD. Findings showed smaller GMV in regions related to attention, executive control, and affective processing, indicating that impairments in frontostriatal and frontoparietal-cerebellar areas observed in adults with ADHD persist into old age. Correlation analysis also revealed associations between specific symptoms and certain brain regions, highlighting the lasting impact of ADHD on neural correlates in old age.

Discrepancies of polygenic effects on symptom dimensions between adolescents and adults with ADHD

Wenhao Jiang et al.

Summary: The study found significant effects of ADHD polygenic risk score (PRS) on hyperactivity and impulsivity symptoms in adolescents, hyperactivity symptom in adults, but not on GM volume components. The results suggest a distinct PRS effect between adolescents and adults on individual ADHD symptoms.

Gray matter networks associated with attention and working memory deficit in ADHD across adolescence and adulthood

Kuaikuai Duan et al.

Summary: The study found significant attention and working memory deficits in individuals with ADHD, with differences in neuronal underpinnings across age groups. While gray matter reduction in certain regions may not indicate persistence of ADHD, their persistent associations with inattention or working memory highlight the important role of these regions in the mechanism of the disorder's persistence or remission.

Cortical Morphometric Abnormality and Its Association with Working Memory in Children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder

Fei-Fei Si et al.

Summary: The study compared cortical morphology features between children with ADHD and healthy controls, finding reduced cortical volumes in the left lateral superior temporal gyrus and left anterior cingulate cortex in children with ADHD. Additionally, the cortical volume of the left lateral STG was positively correlated with working memory in children with ADHD.

Fronto-Parietal Gray Matter Volume Loss Is Associated with Decreased Working Memory Performance in Adolescents with a First Episode of Psychosis

Marta Rapado-Castro et al.

Summary: Research suggests that adolescents with early onset psychosis follow an abnormal neurodevelopmental trajectory, with fronto-parietal gray matter volume reduction associated with age-related working memory dysfunction in this group. This association was not found in the control group.
