Dewatering of non-uniformly structured wet compacts under additional compressive pressure: Predictive model

Eugene Vorobiev

Summary: A predictive model is developed to simulate the dewatering process of non-uniformly structured wet compacts under different filtration pressures and additional compressive pressure. The model takes into account the pressure dependence of the specific cake resistance and can cover industrially important dewatering processes. The study shows that the behavior of mechanical dewatering depends on the cake structure.

An Axisymmetric Problem of Suspension Filtering with Formation of Elastic-Plastic Cake Layer

Bakhtiyor Kh. Khuzhayorov et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the elastic-plastic properties and partial irreversibility of deformation in cake filtration. By deriving and numerically solving the corresponding equations, the thickness, pressure, and concentration distributions of the cake are obtained. The results show that the elastic-plastic deformation of the cake has a significant effect on suspension filtration characteristics.

Filtration of suspensions with forming of an elasto-plastic cake

Bakhtiyor Kh. Khuzhayorov et al.

Summary: This paper derives the filtration equations for suspensions through porous filters with a cake layer exhibiting elastic-plastic properties. The equations are numerically solved for both loading and unloading regimes. The distributions of cake concentration and permeability are determined during pressure increasing and decreasing regimes, showing irreversible behavior. The study also finds that the reloaded system exhibits different growth dynamics and filtration characteristics compared to the initial loading.

Nonlinear consolidation model for the prediction of constant pressure expression of semi-solid materials

Eugene Vorobiev

Summary: A nonlinear model of constant pressure expression is proposed for semi-solid materials and filter cakes, with power-law pressure functions used to describe pressure profiles and local characteristics. Constitutive relations for compressibility modulus and consolidation coefficient as power-law functions of compressive pressure are presented, allowing for approximate analytical and numerical solutions. The consolidation coefficient of highly compressible filter cakes may not vary significantly with pressure increase, due to the rise in compressible pressure and specific cake resistance.
