The effect of environmental regulation on firm productivity: evidence from pulp and paper industry in China

Yijie Wang et al.

Summary: This paper explores the effect of environmental regulation on firm total factor productivity (TFP) in the pulp and paper industry in China using detailed firm-level micro-data. The findings demonstrate that stricter environmental regulation significantly increases firm TFP, with the positive effect mainly driven by improvements in resource allocation efficiency within firms. Furthermore, the study reveals that the effect of environmental regulation on firm TFP varies across firms with different sizes, ages, ownerships, capital intensity, and export status.

Globalization and renewable energy use: how are they contributing to upsurge the CO2 emissions? A global perspective

Abdul Rehman et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the impact of globalization, economic growth, population growth, renewable energy usage, and nuclear energy on CO2 emissions. The results indicate that globalization and economic growth have different effects on CO2 emissions in both the short and long term. Population growth has a positive impact on CO2 emissions, while renewable energy consumption does not affect CO2 emissions. Furthermore, positive and negative shocks to nuclear energy consumption are found to negatively influence CO2 emissions. Based on these findings, new policies and strategies are recommended for global carbon emissions reduction.

Ensuring environmental inclusion in developing countries: the role of macroeconomic policies

Zakia Batool et al.

Summary: In every society, there are disadvantaged groups who have consistently been excluded from economic development and are unable to benefit from economic growth. Along with economic and social factors, environmental factors also contribute to the challenges faced by marginalized groups in achieving inclusion. This study investigates the role of macroeconomic policies in promoting an inclusive clean environment in developing countries.

Technology innovations impact on carbon emission in Chinese cities: exploring the mediating role of economic growth and industrial structure transformation

Lijuan Su et al.

Summary: China aims to achieve carbon emissions peak before 2030 and carbon neutrality before 2060. Technology innovations are seen as crucial, but their impact on CO2 reduction may be limited due to rebound effects through economic growth. Further investigation is needed to understand the nexus between technology innovations and CO2 emissions.

Assessment of country institutional factor on sustainable energy target achievement in European Union

Larisa Ivascu et al.

Summary: This study found that the quality of a nation's institutional and economic energy efficiency framework does not directly impact the achievement of EU energy efficiency targets, but there is a bi-directional causality relationship suggesting the need for improvement. A strong correlation exists between energy efficiency and gas emissions, with national greenhouse gas emissions significantly influencing regulations and strategies for emission reductions.

Revealing the dynamic effects of fossil fuel energy, nuclear energy, renewable energy, and carbon emissions on Pakistan's economic growth

Abdul Rehman et al.

Summary: This study examines the relationship between fossil fuel energy, electricity production from nuclear sources, renewable energy, CO2 emissions, and economic growth in Pakistan. The results show that fossil fuel energy, renewable energy use, CO2 emissions, and GDP per capita have a positive relationship with economic progress, while electric power consumption, electricity produced from nuclear sources, and energy utilization have a negative effect on economic growth. The Pakistani government needs to implement progressive policies to address the energy and power sectors' issues.

Energy efficiency, carbon neutrality and technological innovation: a strategic move towards green economy

Syed Abdul Rehman Khan et al.

Summary: The study investigates the long-run relationship between green economic growth (GEG) and factors that determine its behavior, such as energy efficiency, renewable energy, technology, and the integrity of the government. The empirical analysis shows that these factors positively contribute to GEG and are important for implementing efficient and environmentally friendly production processes. Policy suggestions are derived from the findings to develop energy policies aimed at mitigating environmental degradation.

The impacts of environmental regulation on regional green productivity growth in China: from the perspective of local-neighborhood effects

Ping Lu et al.

Summary: This study examines the local-neighborhood effects of environmental regulation on regional green productivity growth (GPG) in China. The results show that both the local and neighborhood effects follow a U-shaped curve, with the inflection point of the neighborhood effect being larger. The stringency of environmental regulations implemented by most cities in China inhibits both local and neighborhood GPG. Additionally, the study finds that both green technology spillover mechanism and pollution transfer mechanism play a significant mediating role in the neighborhood effect of environmental regulation.

Optimizing Energy Use, Cost and Carbon Emission through Building Information Modelling and a Sustainability Approach: A Case-Study of a Hospital Building

Shabir Hussain Khahro et al.

Summary: The construction industry has a significant impact on the environment and climate change due to the emission of greenhouse gases. This research aims to provide insights into efficient energy use in the building sector and utilize the BIM approach to make environmentally sustainable decisions, ultimately saving energy costs and reducing CO2 emissions. Through energy analyses on a hospital model, it was concluded that adopting BIM in projects can lead to quick and sustainable design processes, improved energy efficiency, enhanced building performance, and provision of better design alternatives.

Sustainability of Energy-Induced Growth Nexus in Brazil: Do Carbon Emissions and Urbanization Matter?

Tomiwa Sunday Adebayo et al.

Summary: This study examines the relationship between economic performance and environmental sustainability in Brazil, finding that energy consumption, CO2 emissions, and urbanization have positive impacts on economic growth while trade openness does not show significant connection. Various statistical methods were used to analyze the long-term associations and predict the economic performance based on different factors. Wavelet coherence test further supports the results of other tests in capturing the causal linkage between variables at different frequencies and periods, affirming the long-term interaction among the parameters of interest.
