Intellectual Capital History and Trends: A Bibliometric Analysis Using Scopus Database

Abeer Al-Khoury et al.

Summary: This article provides a bibliometric analysis of intellectual capital research published in the Scopus database from 1956 to 2020. The study traces the development of scientific activities in the field and identifies gaps for future studies. The analysis focuses on 638 intellectual capital-related papers and presents a detailed bibliometric analysis of the trend and development of intellectual capital research. The findings suggest that researchers in this field often neglect broad relevant theories and findings from studies outside their clusters. Developing nations are also underexplored in terms of intellectual property research. The study identifies potential research issues for further investigation and offers a framework for firms to develop and implement intellectual capital development plans.
