Energy productivity and environmental quality in Sweden: Evidence from Fourier and non-linear based approaches

Summary: This study examines the asymmetric and long-run effects of energy productivity on the environmental quality in Sweden. It finds non-linear and asymmetric effects of energy productivity on the environment, with trade openness positively impacting CO2 emissions (CO2E), and financial development and economic growth without eco-friendly protocols contributing to an increase in CO2E. The study supports the economic theory that energy productivity can stimulate green living and economic growth, and recommends that policymakers in Sweden invest in energy productivity, embrace cleaner technologies through R&D, and prioritize eco-friendly policies to combat climate challenges.
