Dissecting the Relationship between Root Morphological Traits and Yield Attributes in Diverse Rice Cultivars under Subtropical Condition

Md Salahuddin Kaysar et al.

Summary: Understanding the link between root morphological traits and yields is crucial for improving crop management. In this study, a pot experiment was conducted to evaluate root traits and grain yield performance of 13 rice cultivars. Considerable variations were observed among cultivars in root traits, total dry matter, and grain yield. Cluster analysis and principal component analysis identified promising cultivars with favorable root traits, total dry matter, and yield performance.

Rice yield response to potassium: An economic analysis

Michael P. Popp et al.

Summary: Potassium fertilizer is a significant input cost in rice production, and the profit-maximizing rate depends not only on the yield response to soil potassium levels and applied fertilizer, but also on crop value and fertilizer cost. Studies on potassium application rates for rice production across multiple years allowed estimation of a generic yield response curve to calculate optimal potassium rates for producers. Comparisons between profit-maximizing rates and current recommendations suggest that adjustments to fertilizer-K rates could enhance profit with minimal impact on yields.

Effects of Soil Types and Irrigation Modes on Rice Root Morphophysiological Traits and Grain Quality

Can Zhao et al.

Summary: Soil moisture significantly influences rice root development and grain quality, with the alternate wetting and moderate drying (AWMD) irrigation regime showing the most positive effects on root morphophysiological traits and grain quality. Loamy and clay soils performed better under the AWMD regime, while sandy soil demonstrated improved processing and nutritional quality under conventional irrigation. These results provide insights for water-saving rice irrigation design and rice grain quality improvement.

Does plant root architecture respond to potassium under water stress? A case from rice seedling root responses

Dipika S. Patel et al.

Summary: This study found that the growth of rice seedlings is affected by both water stress and low potassium supply, leading to damage in root structure and growth. High potassium availability helps in maintaining root angles and reducing root steepness under mild water stress. However, root steepness is more influenced by water levels under severe water stress.
