Modelling of Land Use/Cover and LST Variations by Using GIS and Remote Sensing: A Case Study of the Northern Pakhtunkhwa Mountainous Region, Pakistan

Akhtar Rehman et al.

Summary: Over the past 30 years, there have been significant changes in land use/cover, with an increase in built-up and bare soil classes and a decrease in vegetation class. In the next 30 years, built-up and bare soil classes are expected to continue increasing, while the vegetation class will further decline. There have also been changes in temperature ranges, with an increase in higher temperature classes and a decrease in lower temperature classes.

Early Prediction of Coffee Yield in the Central Highlands of Vietnam Using a Statistical Approach and Satellite Remote Sensing Vegetation Biophysical Variables

Nguyen Thi Thanh Thao et al.

Summary: Accurate and timely coffee yield prediction is essential for coffee farmers worldwide. This study developed and evaluated a coffee yield forecasting method in Dak Lak province, Vietnam, using satellite remote sensing and statistical tools. The findings revealed that the method successfully predicted coffee yields with satisfactory accuracy, which can aid decision makers in forecasting and implementing agricultural policies.

Evaluation of earth observation datasets for LST trends over India and its implication in global warming

Prem Chandra Pandey et al.

Summary: This study examined the trends and spatio-temporal variation of land surface temperature (LST) in India from 2002 to 2022. It explored the feasibility of cloud computing for analyzing big data on LST distribution and provided insights into the impact of land use/land cover (LULC) on regional climate. The results showed spatial variation in LST due to changes in land use patterns and vegetation indices. The study also identified the highest LST values in desert and urban areas during daytime and in desert and snow regions during nighttime.

Variance based fusion of VCI and TCI for efficient classification of agriculture drought using MODIS data

Anjana N. J. Kukunuri et al.

Summary: Vegetation health condition can be accurately assessed and drought can be classified by combining satellite data on vegetation moisture and thermal stresses. The random weighing fusion method can effectively estimate agricultural drought without requiring prior information.

A commentary review on the use of normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) in the era of popular remote sensing

Sha Huang et al.

Summary: The Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) is a popular index for vegetation assessment due to its simplicity and ability to be calculated with any multispectral sensor. However, considerations such as atmospheric effects, saturation phenomena, and sensor factors must be taken into account to ensure effective use of NDVI in various applications, particularly in the UAV user community.

Impact of Land Cover Changes on Land Surface Temperature and Human Thermal Comfort in Dhaka City of Bangladesh

H. M. Imran et al.

Summary: Urbanization leads to land use change, affecting Land Surface Temperature (LST). The increase in built-up areas in Dhaka city has led to rising LST over the years, resulting in reduced thermal comfort for city residents.

Effects of ENSO and Climate Change on Reference Evapotranspiration in Southern Vietnam

Van Viet Luong

Summary: This study evaluates the influences of climate change and ENSO on reference evapotranspiration (ETo) in South Vietnam, identifying temperature as the main contributor to ETo increase and sunshine hours as the main factor causing ETo differences during El Nino and La Nina phases. Further analysis shows different levels of ENSO influences on ETo in different climate sub-regions. Monitoring and forecasting meteorological variables, particularly sunshine hours, are crucial in mitigating the effects of ENSO on drought in the study area.

Assessment of vegetation growth and drought conditions using satellite-based vegetation health indices in Jing-Jin-Ji region of China

Rengui Jiang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the spatiotemporal change characteristics of terrestrial vegetation growth activity in the Jing-Jin-Ji region of China using satellite-based VHIs. It revealed the sensitivity of vegetation growth to temperature and precipitation, and assessed drought conditions through VHI analysis. Results showed a positive trend in VCI during the growing season, while TCI showed a negative trend, with varying impacts of large-scale climate anomalies such as Nino 3.4 on VHIs.

Assessing the spatio-temporal variability of NDVI and VCI as indices of crops productivity in Ethiopia: a remote sensing approach

Jean Moussa Kourouma et al.

Summary: The study aimed to characterize agricultural drought in Ethiopia and understand its effects on crop yield using NDVI and VCI values. Results showed that VCI and NDVI data are useful for drought monitoring in Ethiopia, and that crops like maize, teff, and beans are more vulnerable to drought.
