An active solar water wall for passive solar greenhouse heating

Weiwei Xu et al.

Summary: The addition of an active solar water wall and an underground water storage tank to the north wall of Chinese solar greenhouses can increase nighttime temperature. The water wall shows good performance in terms of heat collection and release capability, as well as thermal performance in adverse weather. The retrofitting of water walls can make warm-season crop production feasible throughout winter by eliminating supplemental heating.

Survey and evaluation of solar technologies for agricultural greenhouse application

Mukesh Kumar et al.

Summary: Greenhouse cultivation is a modern form of agriculture that aims to achieve higher yields and better crop quality through controlled environments. This study evaluates the potential of PV, STC, and PV/T solar technologies in greenhouses. PV modules show promise in meeting electrical energy demand, but shading effects can reduce photosynthetic efficiency. Dynamic shading and concentrating solar technologies offer potential solutions. Semi-transparent PV technologies and STC collectors can also be integrated into greenhouses. Overall, implementing solar technologies in greenhouses can enhance crop production and ensure sustainable energy production.

City Regeneration through Modular Phase Change Materials (PCM) Envelopes for Climate Neutral Buildings

Javier Orozco-Messana et al.

Summary: Climate change is driving urban development policies to reduce carbon emissions and make cities more inclusive, safe, and sustainable. Phase Change Materials (PCMs) offer affordable energy adaptation solutions for urban regeneration, with a market share growing annually by 16%. This paper presents a sustainable and efficient modular solution for PCM-based building envelope regeneration, implemented together with Passive Haus strategies and Nature-Based Solutions (NBS). The proposed strategy's efficiency is demonstrated through a simplified Digital Twin model in the Benicalap neighborhood in Valencia, Spain.

Iskander Tlili et al.

Summary: This paper transiently simulated a room with a Trombe wall using COMSOL software, analyzing the effects of different parameters on air flow and wall temperature. The results showed that the use of PCM can extend the airflow time in the room, and increasing the inlet dimensions can increase air velocity while decreasing the wall outlet temperature.
