Development of Nusselt number correlation for solar CPC with a tubular receiver

Aditi Garg et al.

Summary: This study analyzed a numerical model of a compound parabolic collector (CPC) with a tubular receiver to understand the impact of different parameters on the collector's convective and radiative heat losses. The study proposed a new correlation for Nusselt number incorporating various parameters, and compared it with existing correlations. The results highlighted the importance of considering surface emissivity, insulation thickness, and aperture cover thickness in predicting the thermal performance of the collector.

Model construction and performance analysis for asymmetric compound parabolic concentrator with circular absorber

Xueyan Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper studied the A-CPC with circular absorber operating at horizontal condition. Based on the edge ray principle, the mathematical model of A-CPC with circular absorber was theoretically constructed, and the concentration performance was verified by the visual experiment. The study found that the A-CPC has higher average optical efficiency, stronger adaptability to weather conditions, and higher total annual radiation collection amount compared to the S-CPC.

Energy, exergy, economic and environmental evaluations of a finned absorber tube parabolic trough collector utilizing hybrid and mono nanofluids and comparison

F. Vahidinia et al.

Summary: In this study, the thermal, exergy, economic, and environmental evaluations of a PTC with smooth and finned absorber tubes using MWCNT-Fe3O4/Therminol VP-1 hybrid nanofluid and its associated mono nanofluids were performed. The results showed that the hybrid nanofluid slightly outperformed the mono nanofluids in terms of PTC performance. However, the utilization of nanofluids did not have a significant effect on the LCOE and CO2 emissions.

Energy, exergy, economic and environmental (4E) analysis of a parabolic trough solar collector using MXene based silicone oil nanofluids

Zafar Said et al.

Summary: The present study conducted a 4E (Energy, Exergy, Economic, and Environmental) analysis of a nanofluid-based parabolic trough collector (PTC) using a developed MATLAB model. The addition of MXene (Ti3C2) nanoparticles greatly enhanced the thermal conductivity of the nanofluid at the highest concentration. The PTC exhibited an optical efficiency of 79%, with thermal and exergy efficiencies of 74.71% and 22.44% respectively. The use of MXene-based silicone oil reduced system costs and increased energy gains. Additionally, there were significant CO2 mitigation and environmental benefits.

Modeling and simulation of a cooled CPC-ORC coupled system: Performance analysis

Maurizio Carlini et al.

Summary: The aim of reducing exploitation of the earth leads to the development of Renewable Energy Sources (RES). A technology that achieves this purpose using the solar energy is the Compound Solar Concentrator, able to increase the conveyance of the sun's rays onto the solar cells. In this work, the technology is equipped with a Coil Cooling System to improve the conversion efficiency by cooling the system. Transient numerical simulations of the cooled Compound Parabolic Concentrator (CPC) were conducted using COMSOL Multiphysics software. The results showed that after about 20 models, the improvements were contained and reached thermal equilibrium. By coupling an Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) technology with the cooled CPC, an electric and thermal efficiency of 11.73% and 60.30% respectively were achieved.
