Ecotoxicological relevance of glyphosate and flazasulfuron to soil habitat and retention functions - Single vs combined exposures

Cristiano Soares et al.

Summary: Glyphosate (GLY) and flazasulfuron (FLA) have different effects on soil habitat and non-target organisms. FLA has more toxic effects on earthworms and plants, while GLY mainly affects plant growth and has no effect on collembola.

Glyphosate-based herbicides alter soil carbon and phosphorus dynamics and microbial activity

Pamela Chavez-Ortiz et al.

Summary: Glyphosate and commercial formulations can affect soil C, N, P dynamics, microbial activity, and community structure. Commercial formulation had stronger effects compared to pure glyphosate. Microbial community showed higher diversity in NP soil, while changes in microbial groups were more pronounced when commercial formulation was applied.

Long-term exposure to polyethylene microplastics and glyphosate interferes with the behavior, intestinal microbial homeostasis, and metabolites of the common carp (Cyprinus carpio L.)

Jianjun Chen et al.

Summary: This study assessed the individual and combined toxicity of polyethylene microplastics (PE-MPs) and glyphosate (GLY) on the brain-gut axis using common carp. The results showed that GLY exposure reduced the expression of tight-junction genes in the brain and inhibited acetylcholinesterase activity. The combination of GLY and PE-MPs inhibited the swimming behavior of common carp. Histological studies indicated that both PE-MPs alone and in combination with GLY disrupted the intestinal barriers. The abundance and diversity of gut microbiota were also significantly altered by the combination of PE-MPs and GLY.

Summary: The study found that the effects of glyphosate on soil microbial communities can be inconsistent, but glyphosate, tillage, and crop rotation did not have significant impacts on the diversity and composition of soil bacterial communities in wheat rhizosphere.

Monitoring and risk assessment of pesticide residue in plant-soil-groundwater systxem about medlar planting in Golmud

Xiuyan Jing et al.

Summary: This study investigated pesticide contamination and potential risks in a medlar planting site, with residues of 4 compounds found in the samples. Imidacloprid was the most distributed pesticide, with avermectin, carbendazim, and glyphosate also detected in various samples. The study suggests regulating agrochemical usage to minimize health risks posed by pesticide residues.

Indirect Effects of the Herbicide Glyphosate on Plant, Animal and Human Health Through its Effects on Microbial Communities

A. H. C. van Bruggen et al.

Summary: Glyphosate interferes with the shikimate pathway in plants and microorganisms, leading to detrimental effects on plant and animal health. Research findings on the impact of glyphosate on microbial communities vary depending on the level of integration studied. Long-term glyphosate use has been linked to outbreaks of various diseases in plants and animals.

Glyphosate, aminomethylphosphonic acid, and glufosinate ammonium in agricultural groundwater and surface water in China from 2017 to 2018: Occurrence, main drivers, and environmental risk assessment

Yue Geng et al.

Summary: Glyphosate, AMPA, and glufosinate ammonium were detected in groundwater and surface water in agricultural basins of China, with different exposure pathways and risks identified. The results suggest low risk to water consumption in groundwater, but potential unacceptable risk to fish embryos in surface water, highlighting the environmental risk of these herbicides to aquatic organism safety in China agriculture.

A method to assess glyphosate, glufosinate and aminomethylphosphonic acid in soil and earthworms

Olivier Delhomme et al.

Summary: A new analytical methodology was developed to quantify glyphosate, aminomethylphosphonic acid, and glufosinate in soil and earthworms. The method involved extraction, derivatization, and purification steps, followed by quantification using LC/MS/MS. The optimized method provided low limit of quantification values and was successfully applied in natural samples.
