Serotoninergic receptor ligands improve Tamoxifen effectiveness on breast cancer cells

Maria Rosaria Ambrosio et al.

Summary: The study identified serotoninergic receptor ligands that may be used in combination with Tamoxifen to improve its effectiveness on ER+ breast cancer patients. These ligands reduced viability of BC cells, particularly in MCF7 ER+ cells, and enhanced the effectiveness of Tamoxifen treatment, without affecting non-cancerous breast epithelial cells. SER68, in particular, showed potential in restoring drug effect in a Tamoxifen-resistant cell model.

Bioactive and degradable hydrogel based on human platelet-rich plasma fibrin matrix combined with oxidized alginate in a diabetic mice wound healing model

Itxaso Garcia-Orue et al.

Summary: In this study, an injectable, bioactive, and degradable hydrogel composed of alginate and calcium-activated platelet rich plasma (PRP) was developed for wound healing applications. The hydrogel showed favorable mechanical and rheological properties, and in vitro studies demonstrated its ability to promote cell adhesion and proliferation without cytotoxic effects. However, the in vivo study conducted on diabetic mice did not show significant differences between PRP-HG-2.5% and the control group without PRP, possibly due to the xenogeneic origin of the PRP. Therefore, further evaluation of the effectiveness of PRP-HG-2.5% in a more reliable preclinical model is needed.

Glucose Enhances Pro-Tumorigenic Functions of Mammary Adipose-Derived Mesenchymal Stromal/Stem Cells on Breast Cancer Cell Lines

Maria Rosaria Ambrosio et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that high glucose levels enhance the aggressiveness of breast cancer cells and promote a pro-tumorigenic phenotype in mammary adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stromal/stem cells (MAT-MSCs). The findings suggest that metabolic control may be important for reducing cancer outgrowth and preserving the functions of the adipose microenvironment.

Variability in Platelet-Rich Plasma Preparations Used in Regenerative Medicine: A Comparative Analysis

Raghvendra Vikram Tey et al.

Summary: This study investigates the variability in platelet-rich plasma (PRP) preparation methods and analyzes their efficacy and reliability. The results show differences in PRP production approaches, extent of PRP characterization, small-scale and large-scale preparation methods, and in vitro and in vivo studies. The authors identify two simple, reproducible, economical PRP preparation methods with high platelet yield, and recommend further randomized studies to explore the full therapeutic potential of PRP and its derivatives.

Characterization and differentiation potential of mesenchymal stem cells isolated from multiple canine adipose tissue sources

Usman Rashid et al.

Summary: In this study, we found that canine MSCs derived from infrapatellar fat pad (IPFP) have the highest proliferation rate, while those from omental (OM) adipose tissue have higher cell metabolism. MSCs from all sources showed positive expression of CD73, CD90, CD105, and low expression of CD45. The differentiation potential of canine MSCs isolated from different adipose tissue sources was assessed, with OM-derived MSCs showing better differentiation potential towards adipo- and osteogenic lineages.

Effect of Different Titanium Dental Implant Surfaces on Human Adipose Mesenchymal Stem Cell Behavior. An In Vitro Comparative Study

Vittoria D'Esposito et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of different titanium implant surfaces on BFP-MSCs viability and secretion of cytokines, with results showing that the surfaces did not impair cell viability and preserved their secretion abilities. Further research is needed to define implant surface parameters for optimal release of chemokines.

Adipose Tissue: Understanding the Heterogeneity of Stem Cells for Regenerative Medicine

Wee Kiat Ong et al.

Summary: Human ASCs exhibit heterogeneity due to factors such as nomenclature, tissue depots, donor characteristics, species differences, study design, and tools used, with actual differences in resident cell types. Efforts to understand and standardize this heterogeneity are crucial for supporting therapeutic strategies and regulatory considerations in clinical use of ASCs.
