Flexible Ni/NiOx-Based Sensor for Human Breath Detection

Le Duc-Anh Ho et al.

Summary: We developed a flexible breath sensor based on Ni/NiOx using a laser digital patterning process. The sensor showed fast response/recovery times, excellent repeatability, and superior mechanical stability. The gas-sensing ability enhancement mechanism was investigated using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis. The response of the sensor to temperature alone and chemical components in the breathing gas could be separately evaluated.

Island Effect in Stretchable Inorganic Electronics

Kan Li et al.

Summary: In this work, the island effect in stretchable inorganic electronics is studied through theoretical analysis, numerical simulations, and experimental measurements. A buffer layer strategy is proposed to mitigate the island effect and enhance the stretchability of deformable interconnects. Both experimental and numerical results demonstrate the effectiveness of this strategy, showing promising potentials for applications in various functional device systems.

Direct fabrication of high-resolution and high-performance flexible electronics via surface-activation-localized electroless plating

Wanli Li et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel additive manufacturing approach using surface-activation-localized electroless plating (SALEP) was reported for selectively depositing high-resolution multi-metal layers and fabricating high-performance electronic devices for flexible electronics. The SALEP approach allows for layer-by-layer deposition of multi-metal patterns without the need for subtractive lithography, enabling the fabrication of OTFT arrays with high hole mobility. This low-cost and scalable method offers a promising solution for the development of high-performance flexible electronic devices.

Flexible and Transparent Metal Nanowire Microelectrode Arrays and Interconnects for Electrophysiology, Optogenetics, and Optical Mapping

Zhiyuan Chen et al.

Summary: Transparent microelectrodes have emerged as a promising approach for crosstalk-free multifunctional electrical and optical biointerfacing, requiring high-performance flexible platforms for seamless integration with soft tissue systems. Silver nanowires (Ag NWs) based transparent microelectrode arrays (MEAs) and interconnects are designed to meet this demand, exhibiting high optical transparency, superior mechanical stability, low electrochemical impedance, and excellent sheet resistance. Studies demonstrate that Ag NWs MEAs enable real-time monitoring of heart rhythm during co-localized optogenetic pacing and optical mapping, showing potential for next-generation large-area multifunctional biointerfaces for interrogating complex biological systems.
