Design of a Transmission-Type Polarization-Insensitive and Angularly Stable Polarization Rotator by Using Characteristic Modes Theory

Francesco Alessio Dicandia et al.

Summary: This paper presents a novel design strategy for a transmission-type polarization rotator based on the characteristic modes (CMs) theory. Design guidelines are provided for exciting two current modes on a frequency selective surface (FSS) to achieve polarization rotation. The proposed design exhibits remarkable performance, including polarization insensitivity and compactness, and has been validated through measurements on a prototype.

A shared-aperture transmissive/reflective bi-functional metasurface for both transmitarray and reflectarray

Yingxiang Xiong et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a shared-aperture transmissive/reflective bi-functional metasurface. The metasurface interleaves antisymmetric dipole pairs as transmissive elements and symmetric dipole pairs as reflective elements in orthogonal polarization, achieving near full phase coverage for orthogonally polarized transmitted and reflected wave by utilizing Huygens' resonance. Then, the bi-functional metasurface is utilized to design a transmitarray (TA)/reflectarray (RA) bi-functional antenna. The measured results indicate that the TA has a maximum gain of 30.26 dBi with an antenna efficiency of 45.6% and a 3-dB gain bandwidth of 26.3-29.3 GHz (10.79%), while the RA has a maximum gain of 30.29 dBi with an antenna efficiency of 45.7% and a 3-dB gain bandwidth covering the frequency region of 26-30 GHz entirely. The bi-functional metasurface has significant applications in the field of antenna engineering.

Linear-to-Circular Polarization Transmission Converter Exploiting Meandered Metallic Slots

Francesco Alessio Dicandia et al.

Summary: This article presents a novel wideband linear-to-circular polarization transmission converter made up of two identical fully metallic frequency selective surfaces in cascade separated by an air gap. The converter achieves a wide 3 dB axial ratio bandwidth and exhibits strong robustness to oblique incidence, making it suitable for various applications.

An Ultrathin, Low-Profile and High-Efficiency Metalens Antenna Based on Chain Huygens Metasurface

Chunhua Xue et al.

Summary: This study proposes an ultrathin and low-profile metalens antenna based on chain Huygens' metasurface for applications in the 28 GHz band. By utilizing the properties of the chain metasurface, such as full transmission phase coverage and stable angular performance, the metalens antenna achieves excellent radiated performances, including high gain and efficiency, as well as a wide gain bandwidth.
