100-Layer Error-Free 5D Optical Data Storage by Ultrafast Laser Nanostructuring in Glass

Huijun Wang et al.

Summary: A high capacity and ultra-long lifetime 5D optical data storage using femtosecond-laser-induced nanopore structures in silica glass has been realized. This technology allows recording and retrieving thousands of layers of multibit digital data with >99% transmission and minimal readout error.

Single-pulse, reference-free, spatiospectral measurement of ultrashort pulse-beams

David Goldberger et al.

Summary: This paper presents a reference-free, full-field, single-shot spatiospectral measurement technique called broadband single-shot ptychography (BBSSP). BBSSP provides the complex wavefront for each spectral and polarization component in an ultrafast pulse-beam and should be applicable across the electromagnetic spectrum. BBSSP will dramatically improve the application and mitigation of spatiospectral pulse-beam structure.

Synthetic helical dichroism for six-dimensional optical orbital angular momentum multiplexing

Xu Ouyang et al.

Summary: Optical multiplexing with orthogonal data channels improves density and security, but nanoscale OAM sensitivity limits its application. Utilizing OAM for nanoscale information multiplexing involves discovering OAM-dependent polarization ellipses and synthetic helical dichroism. This mechanism enables six-dimensional optical information multiplexing with subwavelength-scale focused OAM beams and plasmonic nanoaggregates.

An Overview of the Thermal Erasure Mechanisms of Femtosecond Laser-Induced Nanogratings in Silica Glass

Yitao Wang et al.

Summary: Type II modifications induced by infrared femtosecond lasers in optical devices exhibit excellent thermal stability at high temperatures. These modifications form nanogratings which can be easily detected through birefringence measurements, although measured birefringence is a result of multiple contributions including form birefringence, stress-induced birefringence, and point defects. This study investigates the thermal erasure kinetics of these contributions in silica glass, identifying mechanisms through spectroscopic techniques and simulating erasure kinetics of porous nanogratings. Overall, this work provides valuable insights for the realization of optical devices operating at high temperatures.

Femtosecond laser-induced spatial-frequency-shifted nanostructures by polarization ellipticity modulation

Huachao Cheng et al.

Summary: By changing the polarization ellipticity of the working laser, a prominent spatial frequency shift (SFS) for femtosecond laser-induced periodic structures is demonstrated. This results in the fabrication of unique nanostructures on silicon and zinc selenide with different characteristics as low- and high-spatial-frequency nano-ripples, respectively. These phenomena are explained using laser-surface plasmon polariton interference mechanism and effective medium theory.
