Psychosocial outcomes of human papillomavirus (HPV)- and non-HPV-related head and neck cancers: A longitudinal study

Melissa Henry et al.

Summary: HPV status is associated with anxiety, depression, quality of life, and sexuality needs in patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck. HPV-negative tumors are associated with higher psychological distress immediately post-diagnosis, while HPV-positive tumors exhibit vulnerability post-treatment, indicating a need for support in both groups.

The Key Differences between Human Papillomavirus-Positive and -Negative Head and Neck Cancers: Biological and Clinical Implications

Steven F. Powell et al.

Summary: Head and neck cancer (HNC) is the sixth most common form of cancer worldwide, with two distinct subtypes associated with smoking/drinking and/or human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. While the incidence of non-viral HNC is decreasing, HPV-positive HNC has seen a dramatic increase in recent years. Molecular and clinical differences between HPV-positive and -negative HNC have been observed, with distinct risk factors and complex molecular signatures within the same anatomical subtypes.

Association of Inventory to Measure and Assess imaGe Disturbance - Head and Neck Scores With Clinically Meaningful Body Image-Related Distress Among Head and Neck Cancer Survivors

David Macias et al.

Summary: The study aimed to determine the cut-off score for Inventory to Measure and Assess Image disturbance - Head and Neck (IMAGE-HN) that identifies head and neck cancer patients with clinically relevant body image-related distress (BID). An IMAGE-HN score of >= 22 was found to be optimal, identifying patients with clinically relevant BID. Patients above this cut-off score showed significantly higher levels of depression and anxiety symptoms, as well as worse quality of life.
