Immunogenic cell stress and death

Guido Kroemer et al.

Summary: Immunogenic cell death (ICD) plays an important role in therapy and disease, as dying mammalian cells release signals that interact with the host to determine the immunological correlates of cellular stress and death. ICD is crucial in immunosurveillance and is related to strategies evolved by pathogens and cancer cells. Additionally, normal cell death can also initiate antigen-specific immune responses.

Early Tumor-Immune Microenvironmental Remodeling and Response to First-Line Fluoropyrimidine and Platinum Chemotherapy in Advanced Gastric Cancer

Ryul Kim et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of chemotherapy on the tumor-immune microenvironment (TME) in gastric cancer patients. They found that chemotherapy can remodel the TME, leading to increased infiltration of natural killer (NK) cells, repolarization of macrophages, and increased antigen presentation. However, nonresponders to chemotherapy exhibited different features, including low or absent expression of PD-L1, increased WNT signaling, B-cell infiltration, and increased expression of LAG3 in T cells coupled with decreased dendritic cell abundance.

Targeted therapeutic effects of oral inulin-modified double-layered nanoparticles containing chemotherapeutics on orthotopic colon cancer

Yan Hou et al.

Summary: Colon cancer is a prevalent global cancer, and the complexity of the gastrointestinal structure hinders the safe delivery of drugs to the tumor site. In this study, paclitaxel-loaded oral colon double-targeted nanoparticles were designed to specifically target the colon tumor. These nanoparticles were able to effectively deliver the drug to cancer cells and induce apoptosis. In vivo studies showed that the nanoparticles could accumulate at the tumor site and have a therapeutic effect on colon cancer. The safety evaluation also demonstrated that this drug delivery system is safe and holds promise for orthotopic colon cancer treatment.
