Algorithmically Solving the Tadpole Problem

D7 moduli stabilization: the tadpole menace

Summary: D7-brane moduli are stabilized by worldvolume fluxes, contributing to the D3-brane tadpole. In F-theory Type IIB compactifications, a no-go theorem is proved for certain landscape of configurations. As the genus of the curve dual to the D7 worldvolume fluxes increases, the induced D3 charge's lower bound decreases, but high-genus high-degree curve flux configurations cannot be ruled out completely. Most of these fluxes are likely to have very high curvature above the string scale, except on unrealistically large compactification manifolds.

Moduli stabilization in asymptotic flux compactifications

Summary: We propose a new strategy for studying complex-structure moduli stabilization in Type IIB and F-theory flux compactifications. By utilizing the tools of asymptotic Hodge theory, we determine vacua in any asymptotic regime of the complex-structure moduli space. In a leading approximation, we find that the moduli dependence of the vacuum conditions follows a polynomial behavior with a dependence given by sl(2)-weights of the fluxes. We provide a pedagogical introduction to the sl(2)-approximation and a step-by-step procedure for constructing the corresponding Hodge star operator. Our analysis of Calabi-Yau examples demonstrates the accuracy of the sl(2)-approximation and allows us to determine the behavior of the fluxes' tadpole contribution. Furthermore, we discuss the structure of vacuum loci and their relationship to swampland conjectures, specifically the realization of the linear scenario in view of the tadpole conjecture.

A database of Calabi-Yau orientifolds and the size of D3-tadpoles

Topological constraints in the LARGE-volume scenario

Summary: In this article, we elaborate on the self-consistency of de Sitter vacua in the LARGE-volume scenario of type IIB string theory. We analyze the control over warping, curvature, and g(s) corrections, which depend on the compactification's topology and orientifold/brane data. By computing a general bound on the magnitude of these corrections, we find that the D3 tadpole is strongly constrained. The required tadpole ranges from O(500) to O(10(6)) or more, depending on factors such as the Euler number of the Calabi-Yau 3-fold, the triple-self-intersection and Euler numbers of the small divisor, and the coefficient a(s) in the non-perturbative superpotential.

Small cosmological constants in string theory

Summary: By constructing supersymmetric AdS(4) vacua in compactifications on orientifolds of Calabi-Yau threefold hypersurfaces, we have found that with mild assumptions on numerical values, all moduli can be stabilized at weak string coupling. Furthermore, high-degree Gopakumar-Vafa invariants provide strong evidence that the compactifications are well-controlled, resulting in extremely small cosmological constants. The hierarchical scale-separation in these large but not exponentially compactifications is manifested by the AdS length exceeding the Kaluza-Klein length by a googol factor.
