Mixed-state entanglement and information recovery in thermalized states and evaporating black holes

Shreya Vardhan et al.

Summary: We investigate the behavior of quantum information-theoretic quantities in thermalized isolated quantum many-body systems and evaporating black holes. We examine several entanglement measures, including the logarithmic negativity, Renyi negativities, mutual information, and reflected entropy. The feasibility of recovering quantum information from subsystems or radiation is also studied. We find significant qualitative differences between the finite and infinite temperature cases, and discover important new time scales for entanglement and information recovery in evaporating black holes.

Replica wormholes and the black hole interior

Geoff Penington et al.

Summary: Recent work has shown how to obtain the Page curve of an evaporating black hole through holographic computations of entanglement entropy. The validity of these computations is justified using the replica trick and geometries with a spacetime wormhole connecting the different replicas. The Page transition is studied in detail in a simple model by summing replica geometries with different topologies. Related quantities are computed in less detail in more complicated models like JT gravity coupled to conformal matter and the SYK model. Additionally, a direct gravitational argument for entanglement wedge reconstruction is given using the explicit formula known as the Petz map, where the spacetime wormhole plays a significant role. The interpretation of the wormhole geometries as part of some ensemble average implicit in the gravity description is also discussed.

Semiclassical 3D gravity as an average of large-c CFTs

Jeevan Chandra et al.

Summary: This study constrains the OPE coefficients and density of states of the 2D CFT dual to a semiclassical theory of gravity in 3D using the conformal bootstrap. By calculating in an ensemble of CFT data, it reproduces semiclassical 3D gravity. Various gravitational solutions, including wormholes and higher topology spacetimes, are analyzed and shown to agree with the ensemble-averaged CFT. The study also provides a controlled, semiclassical realization of the mechanism of Coleman, Giddings, and Strominger with random couplings induced by wormholes.

Bound Entanglement in Thermalized States and Black Hole Radiation

Shreya Vardhan et al.

Summary: In this study, the mixed-state entanglement structure of chaotic quantum many-body systems at late times is examined using the equilibrium approximation. By evaluating the logarithmic negativity, a rich entanglement phase diagram is obtained, revealing the presence of bound entanglement.

Large and small corrections to the JLMS Formula from replica wormholes

Jonah Kudler-Flam et al.

Summary: The study revisits the replica trick for relative entropy and finds corrections to the JLMS formula in various scenarios, even after accounting for quantum extremality effects. Non-perturbative corrections arising from subdominant replica wormhole gravitational saddles indicate the error-correcting nature of AdS/CFT. Enhanced corrections are found near entanglement phase transitions. The study also reveals an infinite violation of the JLMS formula after the Page time due to a rank deficiency in the bulk entanglement spectrum, providing implications for bulk reconstruction.

Distinguishing Random and Black Hole Microstates

Jonah Kudler-Flam et al.

Summary: This work explores the distinguishability between random states and black hole microstates, calculating various generalized quantities to reveal new structures. Extending the study to random tensor networks leads to the discovery of new phenomena, enhancing the understanding of the relationship between holographic states and random tensor networks. The implications on the black hole information problem are discussed, providing new insights and solutions.
