Detectors in weakly-coupled field theories

Simon Caron-Huot et al.

Summary: We study asymptotic detector operators in weakly-coupled field theories, which describe measurements at future null infinity in collider experiments. In conformal theories, they correspond to light-ray operators and have a direct relation to the theory's spectrum. We discuss how to renormalize infrared divergences of general detector operators in perturbation theory, leading to detector anomalous dimensions. We also explore the renormalization at the intersections of Regge trajectories and the contributions of novel horizontal trajectories in scalar theories.

Embedding formalism for CFTs in general states on curved backgrounds

Enrico Parisini et al.

Summary: We generalize the embedding space formalism to conformal field theories (CFTs) on nontrivial states and curved backgrounds using the ambient metric of Fefferman and Graham. The construction of CFT n-point functions in these settings is based on appropriate geometric invariants of the ambient space. Exact agreement with holographic computations and expectations from thermal operator product expansions (OPEs) is found for two-point functions of thermal CFT, and the method is also applied to CFTs on squashed spheres with no prior results available, demonstrating its utility.

On the light-ray algebra in conformal field theories

Gregory P. Korchemsky et al.

Summary: We analyze the commutation relations of light-ray operators in conformal field theories. We first establish the algebra of light-ray operators built out of higher spin currents in free CFTs and find explicit expressions for the corresponding structure constants. The resulting algebras are remarkably similar to the generalized Zamolodchikov's W-infinity algebra in a two-dimensional conformal field theory. We then compute the commutator of generalized energy flow operators in a generic, interacting CFTs in d > 2. We show that it receives contribution from the energy flow operator itself, as well as from the light-ray operators built out of scalar primary operators of dimension increment Delta <= d - 2, that are present in the OPE of two stress-energy tensors. Commutators of light-ray operators considered in the present paper lead to CFT sum rules which generalize the superconvergence relations and naturally connect to the dispersive sum rules, both of which have been studied recently.

Gravitational orbits, double-twist mirage, and many-body scars

Matthew Dodelson et al.

Summary: In this paper, we explore the implications of stable gravitational orbits around an AdS black hole for the boundary conformal field theory. The orbits are long-lived states that eventually decay due to gravitational radiation and tunneling. They appear as narrow resonances in the heavy-light OPE and as quasi-normal modes in the thermal two-point function. The connection between orbits, quasi-normal modes, and double-twist operators is investigated in detail, and the anomalous dimension of double-twist operators is computed.

CFT correlators, W-algebras and generalized Catalan numbers

Robin Karlsson et al.

Summary: This research investigates the role of Catalan numbers in the Virasoro heavy-heavy-light-light (HHLL) vacuum blocks and HHLL W-N vacuum blocks in two spacetime dimensions. It reveals that these numbers play a crucial role in the generating function equation and the correlation of stress tensor in the latter case.

Thermal stress tensor correlators, OPE and holography

Robin Karlsson et al.

Summary: This article studies the OPE expansion of the two-point functions of the stress tensor and double-stress tensors, which are important light degrees of freedom in strongly coupled conformal field theories with a large central charge, in thermal and heavy states. The results are compared to the holographic finite temperature two-point functions to extract conformal data beyond the leading order in the large central charge expansion. Specifically, corrections to the OPE coefficients determining the near-lightcone behavior of the correlators are computed, as well as the anomalous dimensions of the double-stress tensor operators.

Approximate symmetries in d=4 CFTs with an Einstein gravity dual

Kuo-Wei Huang

Summary: By studying d = 4 conformal field theories with a pure Einstein gravity dual, we have discovered interesting results about algebraic structures. Under certain conditions, a rescaled mode operator satisfies a Virasoro algebra, and the structure is enhanced to a Kac-Moody algebra when additional components are incorporated.

Generalizing event shapes: in search of lost collider time

Gregory P. Korchemsky et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a new class of collider-type observables in conformal field theories, known as generalized event shapes, which are sensitive to the longitudinal structure of the collision-produced state. It is shown that strong coupling corrections exhibit longitudinal broadening in the energy-energy correlation.

Turning black holes and D-branes inside out of their photon spheres

Massimo Bianchi et al.

Summary: This article explores the symmetry of conformal inversions between extremal Reissner-Nordstrom black holes, D3-branes, and their intersecting bound states in lower dimensions. The study identifies a relationship between the scattering angle and inspiralling angle of a probe in different scenarios, as well as the consistency of radial actions and Shapiro time delays. The article also discusses the application of conformal inversions to other black holes and branes, and explores the fate of symmetry at the quantum level and in nonspherically symmetric cases.

ISCOs in AdS/CFT

David Berenstein et al.

Summary: We studied stable circular orbits in spherically symmetric AdS black holes in various dimensions and provided analytic expressions for their size, angular velocity, and angular momentum in a large black hole mass regime. The dual interpretation is related to meta-stable states that do not thermalize at typical thermal scales, due to non-perturbative effects on spatial curvature. The placement of particles on these orbits is explained through tunneling inside, computed from complex geodesics in the black hole background and the WKB approximation of the wave equation.

The light-ray OPE and conformal colliders

Murat Kologlu et al.

Summary: The study introduces a nonperturbative, convergent operator product expansion (OPE) for dealing with null-integrated operators on the same null plane in a conformal field theory. The objects in the expansion are light-ray operators, which can be computed using the generalized Lorentzian inversion formula. An application of this is in collider event shapes, where the light-ray OPE provides a nonperturbative expansion for event shapes in celestial blocks.

Thermal correlation functions in CFT and factorization

D. Rodriguez-Gomez et al.

Summary: Studying 2-point and 3-point functions in CFT at finite temperature for large dimension operators using holography provides insights into universal formulas for holographic free energy. By including alpha ' corrections, leading corrections at strong coupling can be reproduced. 3-point functions exhibit intricate structures and interesting properties, including a factorization property when dimensions satisfy specific conditions, suggesting that factorization in d > 2 is a reflection of the semiclassical regime.

AdS bulk locality from sharp CFT bounds

Simon Caron-Huot et al.

Summary: The paper proves a long-standing conjecture that any CFT with a large central charge and a large gap Delta(gap) in the spectrum of higher-spin single-trace operators must be dual to a local effective field theory in AdS. The authors derive numerical bounds on bulk Wilson coefficients in terms of Delta(gap) using the conformal bootstrap, and show how AdS(4) naturally resolves the infrared divergences present in 4D flat-space bounds. The results imply the validity of twice-subtracted dispersion relations for any S-matrix arising from the flat-space limit of AdS/CFT.

Summary: In this study, 2-point correlation functions for scalar operators in position space are examined using holography, with a focus on operators with large conformal dimensions. The geodesic approximation is utilized for propagators. In addition to the main contribution, a correction involving bulk cubic couplings and higher curvature couplings is identified, which provides insight into the interior of a black hole.

D. Rodriguez-Gomez et al.

Summary: The thermal 2-point correlation functions in the black brane AdS(5) background dual to 4d CFT's at finite temperature for operators of large scaling dimension were computed. A formula matching the expected structure of the OPE was found, showing an exponentiation property whose origin was explained. Additionally, the first correction to the two-point function due to graviton emission, encoding the proper time from the event horizon to the black hole singularity, was computed.

Hydrodynamic dispersion relations at finite coupling

Saso Grozdanov et al.

Summary: Using holographic methods, the radii of convergence of the hydrodynamic shear and sound dispersion relations in the N = 4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory were calculated at infinite coupling, showing an unexpected growth with increasing inverse coupling. Non-perturbative resummation analysis revealed a piecewise continuous dependence on coupling and a subsequent decrease in convergence radii. The study also explored this phenomenon in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity, demonstrating a similar decrease in convergence radii with effective inverse coupling.

d > 2 stress-tensor operator product expansion near a line

Kuo-Wei Huang

Summary: In this study, the operator product expansion of stress tensors in conformal field theories with a bulk dual of Einstein gravity in d > 2 dimensions was investigated. An algebraic structure consistent with the Jacobi identity was obtained from the TT OPE in a certain null-like limit, with a dimensionless constant C proportional to the central charge. Transverse integrals play a crucial role in the definition of L-m, and a connection between near-lightcone stress-tensor conformal block in d > 2 dimensions and the d = 2W algebra was observed.
