Escaping the interiors of pure boundary-state black holes

Ahmed Almheiri et al.

Summary: We study a type of pure black hole microstates and show that they can escape by activating certain double trace deformations in the CFT. These microstates are associated with BCFT states prepared through a Euclidean path integral starting from a boundary in Euclidean time. They are connected to black holes in the bulk with an End-of-the-World brane, which is a timelike boundary of the spacetime behind the horizon. By adjusting the sign of the coupling of the double trace operator to the boundary conditions on the brane, the deformation introduces negative energy into the black hole, resulting in time advancement for signals behind the horizon. We demonstrate that the escapability property of the considered microstates is directly related to the traversability of deformed wormholes. We also briefly discuss the reconstruction of the black hole interior and state dependence.

Strings, branes, Schwarzian action and maximal chaos

Avik Banerjee et al.

Summary: In this article, we provide explicit evidence for the occurrence of maximal chaos in a strongly coupled large Nc gauge theory for a generic probe quark-like defect degrees of freedom. We show that a Schwarzian effective action for the soft sector emerges and couples with other modes, in the infra-red. Evidence of maximal chaos away from extremality on a D-brane horizon is also presented.

Wormholes from averaging over states

Ben Freivogel et al.

Summary: An important question regarding black holes is the difference between a typical pure state and the ensemble average. Through the use of semi-classical gravity, this question can be addressed. The focus is on quantum deviations, which measure fluctuations in the expectation value of an operator within a set of pure states. By calculating correlation functions in the background of an eternal black hole, which can be reliably done within semi-classical gravity, it is shown that wormholes can arise from averages over states rather than theories. As an application, the size of the long-time correlation function < A(t )A(0)& rang; is calculated.

Sequential flows by irrelevant operators

Christian Ferko et al.

Summary: We investigate the possibility of T T deforming a collection of already TT-deformed theories, leading to the definition of classes of irrelevant deformations related to subsystems. We analyze the resulting spectrum and present numerical evidence supporting modular invariance in certain basic cases. Additionally, we examine the flow of the classical Lagrangian for free bosons and free fermions under successive deformations, identifying models with potential holographic interpretations.

Quantum Gravity in the Lab. II. Teleportation by Size and Traversable Wormholes

Sepehr Nezami et al.

Summary: In this paper, the authors discuss the simulation of holographic quantum gravity using quantum devices and propose a specific method called teleportation by size and the phenomenon of size winding. They explain the significance of studying quantum gravity in the laboratory and how size winding relates to bulk gravitational physics and traversable wormholes. The authors demonstrate through calculations that perfect size winding is a crucial property of quantum systems with a nearly AdS2 bulk. They also analyze teleportation by size in three different systems and discuss the possibility of realizing these phenomena using near-term quantum devices.

Quantum Gravity in the Lab. I. Teleportation by Size and Traversable Wormholes

Adam R. Brown et al.

Summary: We propose holographic teleportation protocols that can be done in table-top experiments to study models of quantum gravity. These protocols exhibit similar behavior to recent traversable-wormhole constructions. We introduce the concept of teleportation by size to capture how the physics of operator-size growth naturally leads to information transmission. We outline feasible implementations with current technology in two experimental platforms: Rydberg-atom arrays and trapped ions.

Four coupled SYK models and nearly AdS2 gravities: phase transitions in traversable wormholes and in bra-ket wormholes

Tokiro Numasawa

Summary: This article studies coupled Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev (SYK) models and nearly AdS(2) gravities. By constructing models and entangling matter fields, the authors show the phenomenon of first order phase transitions at zero temperature under different couplings. The results of the study demonstrate that the exchange of wormholes plays an important role, and in Lorentzian signature, bra-ket wormholes lead to two entangled closed universes.

Non-local entanglement and fast scrambling in de-Sitter holography

Hao Geng

Summary: In this study of holographic entanglement and information scrambling in de-Sitter space within the context of the DS/dS correspondence, it was found that non-local entanglement structures of dS vacua can extend beyond time-reflection symmetric slices. Additionally, the research extended the geometry to a two-sided configuration and observed interesting phenomena such as the saturation of fast scrambler bound by Sekino and Susskind and the traversability of a wormhole due to a shock wave in the bulk. The study also explored the behavior of two-sided out-of-time-ordered correlator (OTOC) in the late time regime, finding an exponential growth that saturates the chaos bound proposed by Maldacena, Shenker and Stanford, and provided an explanation for these results based on the non-local entanglement structure, ultimately aligning with the ER=EPR proposal.

Chaos exponents of SYK traversable wormholes

Tomoki Nosaka et al.

Summary: In this paper, the chaos exponent in two coupled SYK models is studied, revealing a discontinuous fall-off at the critical temperature of the phase transition. Interestingly, the chaos exponent is found to be small but non-zero even in the wormhole phase. Furthermore, the temperature dependence of the chaos exponent is consistent with the observation on the decay rate of the two point function.

Multi-mouth traversable wormholes

Roberto Emparan et al.

Summary: This article discusses the construction of traversable wormholes with multiple mouths in four spacetime dimensions and the associated quantum entanglement. The solutions allow for traversal between any pair of mouths, with specific fundamental groups in the case of multiple mouths. By inserting black holes and extending possible magnetic fluxes or cosmic strings to infinity, the construction of these wormholes is achieved. Multiparty entanglement may also play a significant role in the traversability of these wormholes when AdS asymptotics are added to the construction.

Holographic teleportation in higher dimensions

Summary: In this study, higher-dimensional traversable wormholes are investigated within the context of Rindler-AdS/CFT framework. It is shown that the wormhole can be made traversable through a double trace deformation that violates the average null energy condition (ANEC). The research finds a formula for ANEC violation in higher dimensions, and shows that the information transferred through the wormhole propagates with butterfly speed upsilon B=1d-1.

Six-point functions and collisions in the black hole interior

Felix M. Haehl et al.

Summary: This study investigates the collision of two signals behind the horizons in the eternal AdS black hole geometry and quantifies various properties through computing multiple out-of-time-order six-point functions. The research utilizes boundary operators to diagnose collision strength, quantifies two-sided operator growth, and considers explicit coupling between left and right CFTs to make the wormhole traversable. The results rely on eikonal resummation method to obtain relevant gravitational contributions and show an intriguing factorization property in correlation functions.
