Open superstring first mass level effective Lagrangian: Massive spin-3/2 fields in an electromagnetic background

Karim Benakli et al.

Summary: This article derives explicit equations of motion and associated constraints for the propagation of a charged spin-3/2 massive state in a constant electromagnetic background in a flat spacetime. The Lagrangian for the physical fermionic fields in the first massive level of the open superstring is provided. Two different Lagrangians are presented, one allowing a simple derivation of the equations of motion and constraints, and the other yielding a decoupled system of equations even though the fields of different spins appear coupled at the Lagrangian level.

Open superstring first mass level effective Lagrangian: Massive spin-2 in an electromagnetic background

Karim Benakli et al.

Summary: Minimal coupling can cause causality loss when describing charged particles with spin greater than one in a constant electromagnetic background. The study of Regge trajectories in string theory, which include such states, may provide insights into potential remedies for these pathologies.

Higher-spin states of the superstring in an electromagnetic background

Karim Benakli et al.

Summary: This paper constructs a supersymmetric Lagrangian for charged massive spin-2 and spin-3/2 fields in a constant electromagnetic background using the four-dimensional hybrid formalism for open superstring field theory. The hybrid formalism offers the advantage of manifest N = 1 d=4 spacetime supersymmetry, combining the spin-2 and spin-3/2 fields into a single superfield without the need for picture-changing or spin fields.
