Gravitational waves and kicks from the merger of unequal mass, highly compact boson stars

Miguel Bezares et al.

Summary: Boson stars have been studied as simple models of compact objects and self-gravitating structures formed in dark-matter scenarios. The merger of two boson stars was investigated, revealing an asymmetric mechanism for dissipating angular momentum and potentially producing high kick velocities in remnant boson stars. Comparisons of gravitational wave signals between boson star binaries and black hole binaries were made to assess detectability differences with ground-based interferometers.

Deconstructing scaling virial identities in general relativity: Spherical symmetry and beyond

Carlos A. R. Herdeiro et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the applications of Derrick-type virial identities in field theories, including how to reconstruct them as integral forms of appropriate combinations of equations. In spherical symmetry, the appropriate combination and gauge choice can produce the main form of the virial identity. In more general cases, for stationary, axisymmetric, asymptotically flat black hole or solitonic solutions, a master form for their virial identity is proposed.

GW190521 as a Merger of Proca Stars: A Potential New Vector Boson of 8.7 x 10-13 eV

Juan Calderon Bustillo et al.

Summary: GW190521 is a short gravitational-wave signal interpreted as a quasicircular merger of black holes, forming a remnant black hole with a mass of about 142 solar masses. Despite the lack of visible premerger emission, further investigation is needed to understand the pre-merger dynamics and nature of the colliding objects.

The imitation game: Proca stars that can mimic the Schwarzschild shadow

Carlos A. R. Herdeiro et al.

Summary: The study finds that dynamically robust spherical Proca stars can successfully mimic the shadow of a (near-)equilibrium Schwarzschild BH in an astrophysical environment, despite the absence of light rings, under certain observation conditions. Different types of bosonic stars exhibit different behaviors in terms of stability and the ability to imitate black hole characteristics, with some solutions showing potential to reproduce the ISCO of a Schwarzschild BH.

Self-interacting multistate boson stars

Hong-Bo Li et al.

Summary: This paper considers rotating multistate boson stars with quartic self-interactions, displaying the mass as a function of synchronized and nonsynchronized frequencies for different cases. Additionally, the study analyzes the coexisting phase with both ground and first excited states for SIMBSs in three different cases, calculating the maximum value of the coupling parameter.

Virial identities in relativistic gravity: 1D effective actions and the role of boundary terms

Carlos A. R. Herdeiro et al.

Summary: Virial identities, also known as scaling identities, are important integral identities in nonlinear field theories. This paper provides a pedagogical rationale for deriving such integral identities from a standard variational treatment. The authors emphasize the importance of including appropriate boundary terms in relativistic gravity, and show that specific gauge choices can simplify the computation of virial identities in General Relativity.

Nonlinear effects in the excited states of many-fermion Einstein-Dirac solitons

Peter E. D. Leith et al.

Summary: The study analyzes excited-state solutions for a gravitationally localized system with high-angular-momentum fermions, showing that increased nonlinearity causes deviations in behavior compared to a two-fermion case. The multiplicity of excited-state solutions leads to distortions in the characteristic spiraling forms of mass-radius relations, with a discussion on the connection to the internal structure of relativistic solutions.

Kerr black holes with synchronized axionic hair

Jorge F. M. Delgado et al.

Summary: This study focuses on Kerr black holes with synchronized axionic hair, which are the BH generalizations of rotating axion boson stars. By utilizing the complex Einstein-Klein-Gordon theory with a QCD axionlike potential, the authors present an overview of the solutions' parameter space and their fundamental geometric and phenomenological properties, highlighting the significance of nonlinearities in the potential under certain conditions.

New solutions for rotating boson stars

Felix Kling et al.

Summary: This study analyzes boson star configurations with angular momentum and identifies two new classes of solutions. One where all particles are in a slowly rotating state, and another where most particles are in a nonrotating ground state with a small number in an excited rotating state. The underlying equations describing the profile of these compact objects are solved both numerically and analytically.
