Coherent state excitations and string-added coherent states in gauge-gravity correspondence

Hai Lin

Summary: In this paper, the detailed properties of BPS coherent states and their connection to gravity are analyzed. The group integral coherent state is interpreted as a path integral over auxiliary variables coupled to the elementary letters of the theory. The eigenvalues of coherent state amplitudes can be viewed as collective coordinates of giant gravitons. Inspired by these coherent states and integrability, a new type of coherent states in the SL(2) sectors and their cousin PSU(1,1|2) sectors, similar to the aforementioned coherent states, are constructed. The large spin and small spin limits can be obtained by varying coherent state amplitudes. The addition of string words onto the BPS coherent states gives rise to string-added coherent states. The insertions of string multi-words can be seen as operator-insertions in the path integral. BPS states and near BPS states building upon these coherent states in gauge-gravity correspondence are described. For example, string-added coherent states and their near BPS spectra are analyzed. This approach is particularly convenient for heavy excited states.

Nonrelativistic approximations of closed bosonic string theory

Jelle Hartong et al.

Summary: We further develop the 1/c(2) expansion of closed bosonic string theory and show its equivalence to the Gomis-Ooguri string theory at the next-to-leading order (NLO) in a curved target space. We compute the energy of the string up to the next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) for a flat target space and demonstrate its agreement with the relativistic energy expansion. We also compute the algebra of Noether charges and its correspondence with the Poincare algebra expansion, specifically the string Bargmann algebra at NLO. Finally, we expand the phase space action and show that the normal ordering constant of the relativistic theory can be reproduced by the NLO and NNLO theories.

Words to describe a black hole

Chi-Ming Chang et al.

Summary: We improve the constructive enumeration method for 1/16-BPS states in maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory in four dimensions, and identify states that are not of multi-graviton form. We find a few such states for the SU(2) gauge group at relatively high energies, resolving a long-standing puzzle. Along the way, we clarify various subtleties in the literature and prove a non-renormalization theorem regarding the exactness of cohomological enumeration in perturbation theory. We also highlight a giant-graviton-like feature in our results and anticipate that a thorough analysis of our data will shed light on the fundamental properties of black hole microstates.

Nonrelativistic Expansion of Closed Bosonic Strings

Jelle Hartong et al.

Summary: We present a novel approach to nonrelativistic closed bosonic string theory by expanding the relativistic string in terms of a 1/c(2) expansion, where c represents the speed of light. This approach eliminates the need to take a limit of the string in a near-critical Kalb-Ramond background. By applying the 1/c(2)-expanded Polyakov action at next-to-leading order, we are able to reproduce the known action of nonrelativistic string theory, provided that the target space satisfies a suitable foliation constraint. Furthermore, we compute the spectrum in a flat target space with a circular direction wound by the string, up to next-to-leading order, and demonstrate that it matches the spectrum of the Gomis-Ooguri string.

Torsional string Newton-Cartan geometry for non-relativistic strings

Leo Bidussi et al.

Summary: We revisit the formulation of non-relativistic string theory and describe its target space geometry. Through an infinite speed of light limit and a null reduction of the relativistic closed bosonic string, we obtain a new formulation that includes a two-form field. The target space geometry of the non-relativistic string arises from the reduction of the extended Poincare algebra by the symmetries of the Kalb-Ramond field.

Spin Matrix Theory in near 1/8-BPS corners of N=4 super-Yang-Mills

Stefano Baiguera et al.

Summary: This paper explores the limits of N = 4 super-Yang-Mills theory that approach BPS bounds. The resulting non-relativistic theories, known as Spin Matrix Theories, describe the effective dynamics near the BPS bounds and are obtained by reducing N = 4 SYM on a three-sphere and integrating out non-dynamical fields. Previous works have studied various subsectors in this limit, and this paper constructs the remaining Spin Matrix Theories near the 1/8-BPS subsectors. Hamiltonians are derived using the spherical reduction algorithm and shown to match the results from loop corrections. In the PSU(1,1 | 2) case, the positivity of the spectrum is proven by constructing cubic supercharges and their closure to the interacting Hamiltonian. The symmetry structure of the sectors is also analyzed.

Aspects of Nonrelativistic Strings

Gerben Oling et al.

Summary: This article reviews recent developments in nonrelativistic string theory. The theory is defined by a two-dimensional relativistic quantum field theory with nonrelativistic global symmetries acting on the worldsheet fields. It provides a complete framework for connecting different parts of string theory and has generated interest in non-Lorentzian geometries and quantum field theories. The article introduces the foundations and recent progress of nonrelativistic string theory, including the target-space geometry of string coupling and nonrelativistic open strings and effective field theories on D-branes. It also discusses the applications of nonrelativistic strings in the context of the AdS/CFT correspondence.

Giant gravitons, Harish-Chandra integrals, and BPS states in symplectic and orthogonal N=4 SYM

Adolfo Holguin et al.

Summary: This article investigates the generating functions for half BPS correlators in N = 4 SYM theories with gauge groups Sp(2N), SO(2N + 1), and SO(2N) by calculating the norms of a class of BPS coherent states. It is found that ordinary Schur functions can be used as a basis for a sector of states in these theories, and there exist relations between symmetric functions and symplectic Schur functions. The article also discusses connections to Schubert calculus and Gromov-Witten invariants.

Supersymmetric Galilean Electrodynamics

Stefano Baiguera et al.

Summary: In this paper, we propose a renormalizable non-linear sigma model action that describes the relationship between Galilean Electrodynamics and N = 2 supersymmetry. By studying the model directly in non-relativistic superspace, we find that it is nonrenormalizable, but this issue is resolved by introducing infinitely many marginal couplings. The superconformal invariance is also preserved.

BPS coherent states and localization

David Berenstein et al.

Summary: In this paper, we introduce coherent states averaged over a gauge group action to study correlators of half BPS states in N = 4 SYM theory. We show that the overlaps of these averaged coherent states can be written in terms of the HCIZ integral and are a generating function of correlators. We also discuss the computation of normalization of two point functions and the addition of open strings to this formulation.

Nonrelativistic near-BPS corners of N=4 super-Yang-Mills with SU(1,1) symmetry

Stefano Baiguera et al.

Summary: The study explores the limits of N = 4 super Yang-Mills theory approaching BPS bounds with preserved SU(1,1) structure, resulting in non-relativistic theories with emerging U(1) symmetry. Reduction of N = 4 SYM on a three-sphere and subsequent integration of non-dynamical fields as the bounds are approached lead to these near-BPS theories. Through quantization and normal-ordering, they are consistent with taking appropriate limits of the dilatation operator, corresponding to Spin Matrix theories found in previous literature.

Spin Matrix theory string backgrounds and Penrose limits of AdS/CFT

Troels Harmark et al.

Summary: The paper explores the dynamics of AdS/CFT correspondence near BPS bounds using Spin Matrix theory (SMT) limits. It introduces a new type of U(1)-Galilean backgrounds called flat-fluxed (FF) backgrounds and investigates their relation to pp-wave backgrounds obtained from Penrose limits of AdS(5) x S-5. The study shows that large charge limits of these U(1)-Galilean backgrounds emerge as commutative with the SMT limits, similar to Penrose limits of AdS(5) x S-5.

SL(3, Z) Modularity and New Cardy limits of the N=4 superconformal index

Vishnu Jejjala et al.

Summary: This paper explores the microscopic relationship between the entropy of 1/16-th BPS AdS(5) black holes and the superconformal index of N = 4 super-Yang-Mills theory. By utilizing the modular properties of elliptic functions, more general limits of Cardy-like formulas are derived, leading to a three integer parameter family. The obtained entropy formulae share a similar form to the original AdS(5) black hole entropy, with an overall rescaling, and implications for four-dimensional generalizations of the Farey tail are discussed.

Summary: The study focuses on limits of N = 4 super-Yang-Mills theory approaching BPS bounds, leading to non-relativistic near-BPS theories known as Spin Matrix theories.
